Cora Alzada Wells Marsh

August 9, 1923 — February 2, 2020

Cora Alzada Wells Marsh, 96, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away quietly on Sunday, February 2, 2020. She was born August 9, 1923, in Rogers, Texas, to Allen Canby Wells and Julia Morrison Wells. She is preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Allen and Julian Wells, one sister, Barbara Wells Walker, and her youngest son, William “Bill” Wells Marsh. Survivors include five children, Denver Marsh, Jr. and his wife, Roberta, of San Angelo, Charles Marsh and his wife, Tanoa, of San Angelo, Anne Marsh Nicholas of Denton, Julia Marsh Klepac and husband, Bob, of Pflugerville, Frank Marsh and wife, Linda, of Dripping Springs, six grandsons, six granddaughters, and 15 great grandchildren. Growing up, Alzada excelled in music, art and academics. She graduated from Texas State College for Women, now Texas Woman’s University, in Denton, and married her college sweetheart, Denver Curtis Marsh, Sr. on August 27, 1942. After World War II, in 1949, she and her husband bought a farm in Ellis County where they lived and raised cotton, cattle, and children. It was during this time that she started her 30-plus-year career as a teacher and mentor. They moved to San Antonio, Texas, in 1968, where she taught English, Reading, and Spelling at Neff Middle School until her retirement in 1983. They subsequently retired to San Angelo in 1995. She is remembered as a soft spoken, kind, gracious, and charming southern lady, who loved music, art, and most of all, her six children. She always said they were her greatest achievement. The family will celebrate her life and memory at a private graveside service in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
