Leon D. Roach, Sr. was born on October 9, 1943 in San Angelo, Texas to Lois D’Shae and Juanita Leona (Adams) Roach. He passed away December 9, 2018, at the age of 75. Leon was a private man, never boasting of accomplishments or of generosities he so freely gave. He could be counted on to use his gifts and his time to help someone in need, and to serve his church and his community in so many ways, many times leaving people wondering who or how the job got done. His faith journey began at the age of 12 when he accepted Jesus and was baptized in the South Concho River. At that time he was a member of Baze Street Baptist Mission Church and was in the Royal Ambassadors which laid the foundation for the life of service he came to live. Always a man of his word, Leon would teach his sons to live the same way. He was self-employed in construction most of his life and his sons learned and worked in the trade with him from a young age. He believed in “work hard, play hard, love hard”, and he lived that way every day. He is survived by his sons, Leon D. Roach, Jr. and wife Shannon; Tony Roach and wife Karen of Odessa; Kevin Ogle and wife Joanna of Bettendorf, Iowa; his grandchildren, Shelby D’Shae, Darby and Kaci Roach; Hunter and Zack Roach of Frisco; Christina Lopez and fiancé Leland Hartz; Michael Ogle and wife Breanne, and Brandon Ogle all of Bettendorf, Iowa; great-grandchildren AJ Lopez and Matthew Hartz. Sisters Bettye Glover of England, Arkansas, Audrey Coleman of Abilene, Texas, Mackey Vogel of Yorktown, Texas; brothers Bif Roach and Bill Chappell of Edinburgh, Texas, and Jerry Roach of Abilene, Texas; numerous nieces and nephews; one daughter LeaAnne Roach; and his constant companion in recent months, his rescue dog, Killer. He is also survived by his stepfamily whom he cherished and loved from the minute they came into his life. They are Tineva Dyches; Jay Dyches and wife Becky; grandchildren Kayla Matthews and husband Mickey, Ashley Dyches, and Coby Dyches and wife Krysten; great-grandchildren Kallyn and Stetson Matthews, all of San Angelo; and sister-in-law Ginger Rothe and husband Ron Robertson of Austin. Leon married Shirley Dyches on July 9, 2009. Their life was defined by God and family. They worked side by side on church projects large and small, always helping others where they found a need. They enjoyed gardening, traveling together, and they could often be found at sporting events cheering on their grandchildren. Shirley preceded him in death on June 22, 2018. He is also preceded by a sister, Nita Kay Terry. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 14, 2018, at Harper Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Leon would have appreciated donations to the Boys & Girls Club of San Angelo or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Dr. Mike Jones and the outstanding nurses and staff of 5-North at Shannon Medical Center for your compassionate, unwavering care for Dad during his time there. “Alright, I’m ready to go home now…”
