Alicia DeHoyos

January 28, 1947 — June 20, 2026

San Angelo

Alicia "Nana" DeHoyos, age 79, passed from this life into Eternity with Jesus Christ, on Saturday, June 20, 2026. Alicia was one of nine children born to Alfredo and Ruperta Cortez on January 26, 1947, in San Benito, TX.

Alicia grew up in a ranch right outside of Big Lake, TX. She married Mario DeHoyos, Sr. on January 27, 1968, while living in Big Lake, Texas. And from that marriage came three children, Elisa, Edward and Mario, Jr. Nana was an amazingly simple woman but had such a strong faith. She was a homemaker all her life and she loved to serve her children, grandchildren, family, and friends with much love. She lived a life marked by kindness, strength, and unwavering dedication to her family. Her passion was to spend time with her two sons and their families. One of her favorite things to do was to color and paint with her grandchildren and to watch cartoons with them. And she also enjoyed playing loteria any time of the day. She was a devout Catholic and had a strong devotion to the rosary and to the Divine Mercy of Jesus.

Alicia's loving survivors include her sons, Edward DeHoyos (Carmen) and Mario DeHoyos (Connie) both of San Angelo, TX. She was the proud Nana of Levai (Diana) DeHoyos, Heather Peaden, Natalie (Jason) Sosa, Matthew (Gabrielle) DeHoyos, Jacob DeHoyos and Harlee DeHoyos. Her great-grandchildren who brought her so much joy and laughter are Ava Pena, Alexa Pena, Elise Murphy, Ander Peaden, Thane Peaden, Novia Peaden, Kai Peaden, Jude DeHoyos, Kolbe DeHoyos and Camila Sosa. She is also survived by her siblings, Gloria Garcia, Robert Cortez, David Cortez and Minnie Ibarra.

Preceding her passing were husband, Mario DeHoyos, Sr., her parents, her beloved daughter, Elisa Dolores DeHoyos, her brothers Gregorio, Gonzalo, Alfredo, Jr. and Joe Cortez.

Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find comfort knowing that she is reunited with her daughter, Elisa. We are so grateful for the love we shared, the beautiful memories we created with her and the legacy that she left us, never to be forgotten.

A viewing will be on Tuesday, June 23, at Harper Funeral Home from 1pm - 6pm, with the Rosary starting at 6:00pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Wednesday, June 24, at 10:30am. Family and friends are welcome to gather in celebration of her life.

We are so grateful to all those that have loved and prayed for Nana these past few years, months, weeks, and days! Our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Regency House and of the Concho Hearts Hospice for the exceptional care of Nana.

"Those we love do not go away; they walk beside us every day. Unseen, unheard, but always near, still loved, still missed and very dear." We love you, Nana. Rest in Peace!
