A celebration of Allen Underwood’s life will be held in Abilene on Saturday, February 2nd, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Baptist Church. He left this life for his heavenly home on January 23rd, 2019 after a lengthy battle with several health issues. Allen was born August 17, 1952 to A.W. and Iona Underwood in San Angelo, TX. Allen attended Cooper High School & acquired his GED so he could join the Air Force. He served his country for four years. Abilene and Clyde were home to Allen for over 40 years. During this time, he worked at Hendrick Medical Center, Furr’s Supermarket, Lockheed, Allsups, and TDCJ. He became interested in racing at a young age while watching his father at the track. He took up the sport in the early 80s and could be seen in car 44 at Abilene Speedway through the early 90s. After he became involved with karate, he worked tirelessly to achieve his black belt, of which he was very proud. Allen eventually retired from the TDCJ Middleton unit after 14 years. He fell in love with a sweet “Georgia girl” (Rhonda Worley) and made her his bride October 17, 2009. He then moved to San Angelo with his loving wife, where he resided until his death.
