Andrea Dawn Elkins

Andrea Dawn Elkins was born October 24, 1966 in Amarillo, Texas to Charles and Angela Gustin. She was raised in Monahans, Texas. After high school graduation, she attended Angelo State University and earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in May 1989. She soon realized her calling was to follow in her parent’s footsteps and become an educator. She received her teacher’s certification in May 1991. Andrea met the love of her life when she inadvertently locked her keys in her car, Officer Brian came to the rescue, one thing led to another and they married on December 3, 1988. Together they raised the two most important people in her world, Joseph and James Elkins. Andrea’s passion for education spanned 28 years, all with the San Angelo Independent School District. She began her teaching career at Belaire Elementary, then taught at Bonham Elementary for 23 years. The last two years of her career were at Lamar Elementary as the Instructional Coach. When she was not working on finding creative ways to help teach the children with whom she worked, she enjoyed swimming, gardening and camping. Spending time with her family and friends was what was most important to Andrea. Andrea is survived by her husband, Brian Elkins, two sons, Joseph Elkins and James Elkins, and her parents, Charles and Angela Gustin. She also leaves behind her treasured animals of three dogs, two cats, and one fish. A special thanks to the District Courthouse, SAPD, Hospice and their caregiver Leslie, Bonham, and Lamar. Along with Dr. Robert Prieto & his staff for fighting alongside her for 8 years wonderful years and for their friendship.
