Betty Ann Latham Gibbs

January 21, 1933 — April 20, 2017

Betty Ann Latham Gibbs, 84, of San Angelo left us to join Christ with loved ones who had gone before on April 20, 2017 in San Angelo. Betty was born January 21, 1933 in Rule, Texas to A.F. and Eula Belle McBroom McMinn. She grew up in Texarkana, Texas and graduated from Texarkana, Texas High School. Betty went on to attend Hardin Simmons University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. She married Hervey Hillman Latham on June 18, 1955 in Texarkana, Texas and they shared 37 beautiful years together before his death in 1992 and raised three children, Lu Ann, Elizabeth and Allen. They moved to San Angelo in 1962 and Betty taught for San Angelo Independent School District for 28 years, all of them at Robert E. Lee Junior High School. Betty was a proud, and very loud, supporter of the Lee Rebels, once winning the Faculty Spirit Award. She was a longtime member of Park Heights Baptist Church where she sang in the choir and raised her children. Later she and Hervey transferred to Southland Baptist Church. She sang in the choir there as well and also served as a Deacon. Betty loved her church and her church family. She was a longtime member of the American Association of University Women, The San Angelo Retired Teachers Association, The Supper Club, and for many years sang with the Senior Saints Choir, a choir made up of members from many different churches, singing together at First Baptist Church. She married Wallace Craig Gibbs on May 6, 2006 and they shared 9 years together. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Hervey Latham, her husband Wallace Gibbs, her daughter, Suzanne Latham, her brother, Frank McMinn and her Sister, Frances Graves. She is survived by her loving children, Lu Ann Troudt and husband Steve, of Devine, TX, Elizabeth O’Briant and husband Michael, of San Angelo, and Allen Latham, of San Angelo; her Step-daughter, Linda Hodges, of Pflugerville, TX; her Grandchildren, Mitchell O’Briant and his wife Callie, of Jacksboro, TX, Keller O'Briant and Cameron O’Briant, both of San Angelo, and Chelsea Latham and Robert Castillo, of Mineral Wells, TX. Betty is also survived by 2 Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and numerous friends, especially in the Baptist Memorial Community. The Family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 P.M., - 7:00 P.M., Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Harper Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will be 1:00 P.M., Monday, April 24, 2017 at Southland Baptist Church with Rev. Jill Fulghum officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Bronte, Texas. Pall bearers for the service will be Keller O’Briant, Cameron O’Briant, Dale McDonald, Joe McManus, Kevin Huddleston, Bryan Elliott and Tommy Hiebert. Donations may be made to Meals for the Elderly or a charity of your choice. Family and friends may share condolences and sign the online register book at www.harper-funeralhome.com
