Betty Jean Bennett Redwine

November 14, 1929 — February 21, 2019

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Betty Jean Bennett Redwine, 89, was called home to heaven on February 21, 2019. She was born in Brownwood, Texas on November 14, 1929 to Jesse and Eva McCullough Bennett. She was a middle child with three brothers (Allen, Bill and Joe) and three sisters (Azalena, Mourene and Eva Nell). Her parents owned a restaurant across from the Brownwood Depot. As a child of the Depression she learned the value of hard work, and she enjoyed working. She was multi-talented and held a variety of jobs. She worked for many years as a cashier at Winn Dixie. She also became a Licensed Vocational Nurse and worked nights on her days off at a local nursing home in Brownwood. She enjoyed helping others and meeting new people as was displayed in the career paths she chose. Betty never met a stranger. She could strike up a conversation with anyone and always made you feel special. Betty had a true servant’s heart and an astounding faith in God. She loved to read the Bible and attend the ladies Bible study at Victory Christian Center. Betty loved flowers and gardening. For years she maintained the flower gardens at her church. She loved seeing God’s beauty though the vibrant colors in the flowers she would nurture. She had other interests as well. She enjoyed playing games with friends, fishing and traveling. She was always ready for a new adventure. Her true passion was her family. She was preceded in death by her husband Eddie Redwine, one daughter Belinda Olmstead, her parents, three sisters and three brothers. She is survived by her son Larry Thomas and wife Brenda, of San Angelo, daughter Sandra Thomas of San Angelo, and daughter Suzanne Gould and husband Clayton of San Angelo. Grandchildren, Tammy Watkins of San Angelo, Wendy Newsom of Brookesmith, Larry Watkins and wife Jamie of Bangs, Cindy Knoll and husband Travis of Marble Falls, Joseph Thomas and wife Cristi of San Angelo, Julie Barnes and husband Charlie of San Angelo, Lacy Celebre and husband Anthony of Round Rock, Brynna Kinsey and husband Christopher of San Angelo, and Bradley Gould of San Angelo. She also has 7 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation for friends and family will be held at Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo, from 3:00-5:00 pm on Sunday, February 24, 2019. A graveside service will be held 11:00 am, at Cedar Point Cemetery in Brownwood on Monday, February 25, 2019. The family would like to thank the caring nurses and staff of Encompass Home Health and Kindred Hospice, and they are grateful for the compassionate care given to our mom at Senior Care of Meadow Creek during her brief stay. In lieu of flowers the family would respectfully request memorials to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
