Betty Bradshaw Whitten

July 21, 1941 — February 26, 2026

San Angelo, TX

With deep love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Betty on February 26, 2026 at the age of 84.

Betty was born on July 21, 1941 in Brady, Texas. She lived a full and faithful life of devotion to her family, her church, and her many dear friends. She was a loving wife to her husband Jim for 65 wonderful years. Their marriage was a true partnership and a steady example of commitment, faith, and enduring love.

She was a proud and devoted mother to Amy and Alice, and a living example of love to their families. Nothing brought her more joy than gathering her family together. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, and the homes of her daughters and family when she was there. She had a gift for making meals that drew everyone to the table, where stories were shared, laughter filled the room, and lasting memories were made.

Betty’s faith was the foundation of her life. She loved her church deeply and was a faithful servant to God, living out her beliefs with quiet strength, kindness, and generosity. Among her goals in life was the desire to help those who were in need. She served as Outreach Chair on the church board, and participated in Meals for the Elderly, PEO (women’s philanthropic organization), and organizations to feed the hungry. She worshiped God and participated in sharing her faith not only in numerous churches but also in youth camp-outs, Christian assemblies, on patios, and even with Mayan villagers in Mexico. She formed lasting friendships throughout her life and treasured time spent to see friends and family. Whether she was at home or on the road, she nurtured connection wherever she went.

She showed that she was a true ‘Country Girl’ as she quickly adapted to life in diverse environments from North Dakota to southern Mexico. She loved playing games of all kinds – cards, dominos and board. She was always up for a game with her family, especially her grandchildren during family gatherings, and balanced teaching and winning in those games. Throughout her adult life, bridge brought her camaraderie and friendship. Her life was rich with relationships, purpose, and simple joys.

Betty’s life was truly blessed. Now, heaven bound, she will be missed but always loved and remembered. Her family is so grateful for the compassion and love shared by the staff of Schleicher County Nursing Home in Eldorado and The Cottage Memory Unit at the Harvest of Aledo to Miss Betty where she spent most of her last two years.

She is survived by husband Jim, daughters Amy (John) Knight and Alice (Paul Heckathorn) Whitten, six grandchildren, to whom she was known as Nana; Alex, Madeline, Kalley and Kendall Knight, and Jacob and Lily Heckathorn. Each of them brought her immense pride and happiness. At the time of her passing, she was also joyfully awaiting the birth of first great grandson, Louis Ferm, who already held a special place in her heart. She also held a very special relationship with her sister Dorothy’s children and families, Dale, David and James (Kristin Pennington) Wingard and great niece, Mattison Wingard.

Her celebration of life will be on Saturday, March 28th at 1 p.m. at Grace Christian Church in San Angelo, Texas. Everyone who knew her, knows she loved the color purple, please wear purple to the services, if you feel so inclined. The service will be live streamed on Grace Christian Church’s YouTube channel.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Betty’s name to God’s Storehouse Food Pantry at Grace Christian Church, Concho Valley Turning Point Women’s Haven, Meals for the Elderly, (all of San Angelo), or a charity of your choice.
