Calvin Miller

Lester Calvin Miller, 88, of Mereta, passed away on October 7, 2023, in San Angelo.

Calvin was born to Herman and Maurine Smith Miller in San Angelo, TX in 1935. He was raised in Miles and graduated from Miles High School in 1954. While he attended there, he played football, basketball, and ran track. He stayed in the area after graduation and had farms and ranches in Mereta, Miles, and Wall. He was active in the local agriculture community serving as an officer on the Wall ISD School Board in the 1970’s, Director of the Mereta Co-Op Gin from 1977-2001 and Director of the Farm Bureau. He married Martha Attaway on October 15, 2011, in San Angelo. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, sports, and drinking coffee with his friends at the Mereta Gin. He is preceded in death by his two previous wives, Sue Holland Miller in 1959 and Mona Venable Miller in 2005; two children, Cherry Miller and Tami Miller; sibling, Patty Timm Jackson; and niece, Tyree Timm.

Calvin is survived by his wife, Martha; children, Kevin Miller (Linda) of Bullard, TX, Mindy Kinney (Buddy) of Justin, TX, Kye Miller of San Angelo, and step-daughter, Deborah Stone (Corky) of San Angelo; five grandchildren, Adria Miller Church (Colt) of Rockwall, TX, Amanda Miller Pollard (Troy) of Evergreen, CO, Dr. Calli Miller Fry (Cameron) of College Station, TX, Daylon Kinney of Justin, TX, and Buddy Kinney Jr. (Celina) of San Antonio, TX; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and numerous cousins and extended family.

A memorial service for Calvin will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Southland Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation in Calvin’s name to the charity of your choice.
