Carol C. Steadman, Mother, Wife, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, beloved Aunt and Friend passed away peacefully at the age of 87.

Carol was born in Brooklyn, New York and grew up on Long Island. Carol was the youngest daughter of Barbara and Francis Seiter. She graduated from Smithtown High School in 1955. She attended the Barbizon School of Modeling and became a stewardess for Overseas National Airways (ONA) in the late 1950’s. She married George Steadman in November 1959 and a few years later moved to Miami, Florida where they raised their children.

Carol worked for the Richard Nixon Presidential campaigns of 1968 and 1972, attending the inauguration as a guest of the campaign in January 1973. She continued involvement in politics in Florida in the 1970’s working for Paula Hawkins Lt Governor and Lou Frey for Governor campaigns. Over the years she also excelled in sales of Amana Radar-Ranges (early Microwaves), Tupperware, jewelry, clothing and Samsonite luggage. In the mid-1980s, Carol moved to Montgomery County, Maryland and resided there with her late husband, Louis Butler, II. She volunteered at the New Phase Career Center and soon became a job placement specialist for their Displaced Homemaker Program. In this role, she coordinated seminars and liaised with local businesses to help women re-entering the workforce. Carol was a compassionate listener and advocate for women, who was always there for her clients when they needed help. Montgomery County acknowledged Carol in this role as one of their Employees of the Year, honoring her service and dedication.

During their many years together and even after retiring, Carol and Lou loved to travel and enjoyed numerous cruises all over the world. Eventually they moved to San Angelo Texas.

Carol was an artist and loved to paint and sing. Carol was giving of her time and loved to volunteer. She cherished spending time with friends and family, be it playing cards or enjoying a glass of wine. She was an avid reader and was particularly enthralled by politics. Carol’s sweet spirit, lighthearted sense of humor, and goofy facial expressions will be missed by her family and friends, including the incredible staff at Baycrest Senior Living who have become her second family over the past few years.

Carol, lovingly known as Grandy, is survived by her son Craig Steadman and his wife Mary Jane of San Angelo, Texas, and her daughter Karolyn Gardner and her husband Joe of Bristow, Virgina; her grandsons Alexander Steadman and his wife Sydney of Austin, Texas; Christopher Steadman and his wife Katie of Austin, Texas, Ethan Gardner and his wife Rose Richtmyre of Reston, Virginia, Daniel Gardner and Brandon Gardner of Bristow, Virginia; and her great granddaughters, Georgia and Ruth Steadman and Clara and Vera Steadman all of Austin, Texas.

Carol is also survived by her stepsons (and their families) Louis Butler, III and his wife Elaine and Martin Butler and his wife Nancy all of Denver Colorado as well as many nieces and nephews (and their respective families).
