Cathey Aline Landon

December 25, 1949 — April 25, 2026

San Angelo

Cathey Aline Landon, 76, passed peacefully from this earth on Saturday, April 25, 2026, after a brief illness.

She was born on December 25, 1949, in Mineola, Texas, to B.C. and Novis (Ruth) Ellington, and was raised in Snyder, Texas. At just 15 years old, she began “going steady” with Dennis Clay Landon. Two weeks after graduating from Snyder High School, Cathey and Clay were married on June 7, 1968. This June, they would have celebrated 58 years of marriage.

Cathey and Clay began their life together in San Angelo, Texas. As Clay worked in the oilfield and Cathey devoted herself to raising their family and caring for their home, they lived in several places over the years, including Snyder and Lamesa, Texas; Lovington, New Mexico; Ozona, Texas; Velma, Oklahoma; and La Veta, Colorado, before eventually returning to San Angelo to be near family in retirement.

In 1987, Cathey began a career in banking at Crockett County National Bank in Ozona. She later served as a Personal Banker for Wells Fargo in San Angelo, where she worked for many years at the 19th Street branch. She concluded her career after relocating to Oklahoma. Raised in the Baptist church, Cathey faithfully taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years.

She was an exceptional cook; known especially for her homemade cinnamon rolls and pork ribs and the meals she lovingly prepared for Clay’s coworkers in the gas plants. They always looked forward to any occasion when Cathey was cooking.

Cathey loved her family deeply, and her greatest joy was having her children and grandchildren gathered around her—whether for holidays or simple weekend hamburger cookouts. She cherished those moments, often retelling favorite stories that brought laughter time and again.

Affectionately known as “Granma,” she embraced her role as a grandmother with her whole heart. She made each grandchild feel uniquely special through adventures in the little orange car in Colorado, dress-up and tea parties, the treasure box, craft-making, or creating special photo albums to capture their time together. Many cherished memories were made in her kitchen, with grandchildren standing on chairs or sitting on the counter, cooking alongside her.

Cathey would do anything for her family and always said she “loved them more” even in her very last days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Charlie and Joyce Landon; her bonus parents, Blair and Mickey Thompson, and her daughter-in-law, Amy Barnes Landon.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 58 years, Clay Landon; her children, Kelli and Greg Rowe, Clint and Laurie Landon, Cody and Teal Landon, and Kara Landon and Sergio Rico; her precious grandchildren, Amy and Micah Davidson, Annalynn Pitzer, Joshua Vasquez and Isabella Longoria, Erick Rowe, Sara and Miles Duncan, Corbin Landon, and Macy Jo Landon; and her great-grandson, Banks Davidson.
She is also survived by her siblings, Danny and Carol Ellington, Bennie and Lori Ellington, Kay Ellington and Barbara Brannon, and Curtis and Kathy Landon, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins that were very special to her.

A celebration of Cathey’s life will be Saturday, May 9, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall at Providence Baptist Church in San Angelo. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to West Texas Boys Ranch or Hospice of San Angelo.
