Charles Lee Pfluger, beloved husband and father, passed away on July 11, 2026, at the age of 82. He was born in San Angelo, TX, on January 24, 1944, to Charlotte Louise Rau Pfluger and Vernon Leo Pfluger. His life was a testament to the love he held for his family, his church, and the people he called friends. Charles had a giving heart and never wanted credit for helping his fellow man.
Charles grew up in San Angelo and graduated from Central High School. He met his life-long best friend, Terry Irwin, while in elementary school. He and Terry enjoyed fishing, hunting, and mostly stayed out of trouble in their formative years. Charles attended San Angelo College and Texas Tech University, and he served in the Army National Guard from 1965 until 1971. He took over the family farming operations in Schleicher County in 1966.
Charles married Helen Parker in December 1966, and they made their home in Eldorado where they raised their sons Ray and Dan. Charles was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Eldorado and served in many areas, including the Current Needs Committee and sang bass in the choir for many years.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Charlotte, son Raymond, sister Kaye, brother Joe, along with his brother-in-law and friend, Terry Irwin. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Helen, son and daughter-in-law Dan and Dr. Stacy Pfluger, daughter-in-law Rachel Pfluger, brother- and sister-in-law Paul and Brenda Irwin Skretney, niece Jennifer McPike and her husband Craig, niece Ashely Smith and her husband Micah, nephew James Irwin and his wife Brooke, nine great nieces and nephews, and goddaughter Laney Eltarzy.
The memorial service will be held on Friday, July 17, at 11:00 A.M., at the First Baptist Church in Eldorado, TX.
Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Eldorado, Samaritan’s Purse in San Angelo, Daily Bread Meals Program in Eldorado, PAWS of San Angelo, or a charity of your choice.
The family extends a special thank you to the staff at Schleicher County Nursing Home for the love and care they showed Charles. Our thanks as well to Lana and Gordon Jones, Scott and Patty Robinson, Eddie and Kim Albin, all members of FBC Eldorado, for the love and care they have shown to Charles and Helen through these difficult times. Also, thank you to Hyman Sauer who visited Charles every week.
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways, acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)
