Charles Earnest Turner

Charles Ernest “Charlie” Turner went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 29, 2026. He was born on April 15, 1954, in Hugo, Oklahoma, to Gene and Chico Turner. He graduated from Reagan County High School in 1972, where friends affectionately called him “Charlie Tuna.” Later in life, his favorite nickname “HaHa” came from the ones who adored him most—his grandkids.

On March 6, 1979, Charlie married the love of his life, Mary Edith Turner, and together they built a life rooted in faith, family, and service. On April 15, 1990, Charlie was baptized by David Brook marking a cherished milestone in his walk with Christ.

From the time he was a young boy, Charlie lived with a servant’s heart. He was always willing to be the hands and feet—whether helping his family, supporting his community, or serving his church. He dedicated 20 years to the Reagan County Volunteer Fire Department and proudly became the first EMT in Reagan County. His commitment to his community continued through his service on the Reagan County Water Board, as Sunday School secretary, and through various committees at First Baptist Church in Big Lake.

Charlie spent many summers on mission trips, first to Mississippi and later to South Texas Children’s Home, where he poured his time and energy into helping others. Alongside his acts of service, Charlie also deeply loved his 40-year career in the oil field, where he formed lifelong friendships and earned the respect of many.

Outside of work and service, Charlie found joy in the outdoors. He loved to hunt—especially the annual elk hunting trips to Colorado and countless dove hunts shared with family and friends. Those trips were more than hobbies; they were traditions filled with laughter, stories, and memories that will be treasured forever.

Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Chico Turner; his brother, Bob Turner; his daughter, Kimberly Turner; and his sister-in-law, Carol.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Edith; his sons, Steven and wife Crystal Turner, and Robert Knight, of Big Lake. He is also survived by his siblings: Mildred Dubbs (Dan) of Pasco, Washington; James Turner (Donna) of Midland; and Bill Turner of Brownwood.

Charlie leaves behind seven beloved grandchildren—Christian, Alex, Abby, Zephan, Tanner, Logan, and Leevi—and two great-grandsons, James and Micah, who brought him immeasurable joy.

He is also lovingly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of dear friends who cherished his kindness, humor, and unwavering willingness to help anyone in need.

Charlie’s legacy is one of faith, service, hard work, and love. His impact will continue to live on through his family, his community, and all who were blessed to know him.

There will be a visitation time that will be held from 5:00pm-7:00pm on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Big Lake with Charles’s funeral service on Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 11:00am also at First Baptist Church of Big Lake. A private burial will take place following.
