Curtis Matthew Miller was born on February 2, 1961, to Carl Aaron and Wilma Doris Wallace Miller in Wiesbaden, Germany. Groundhog Day was never to be the same! Curt passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, in San Angelo after a brief illness. His father was in the USAF, and they spent some time in Japan and San Antonio before coming to San Angelo. They arrived in San Angelo, Texas, when Curt was 8 years old. Curt attended Bellaire Elementary, Edison Junior High School, San Angelo Central High School, and Angelo State University.
Curt’s first love was Jesus, followed by family and his country. He never met a stranger. EVER. He was a die-hard Aggies fan, Lakers fan, Dallas Cowboys fan, and Angelo State Rams fan. He went to as many sporting events as he could, having all-season passes for several years to Ram Sports. He especially loved the A&M-University of Texas rivalry and camaraderie with Dan Springer.
He also loved live music. He attended more concerts than could fit on a piece of paper, many of them multiple times. You could find him at the Blues Festival, Luckenbach, and arenas around the country—just about anywhere with live music, large and small. Most recently, he saw George Strait twice, Chris Stapleton, Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, Ted Nugent, Red Clay Strays, and the list goes on and on. He and Elaine had a very special affection for a young group from Frisco, Texas, having seen them multiple times over the past year. They became just like family and mourned his sudden passing just like the rest of us.
He was a travel junkie. He camped at Big Bend under the stars over 30 times. He loved the beach, Tennessee, and the mountains. He hiked part of the Appalachian Trail alone at the tender age of 14! In the past several years, Fredericksburg, Texas, was a favorite destination, along with Ruidoso, NM, Kentucky, Arkansas, Indiana, Oklahoma, Missouri, Nevada, Ohio, Kansas, Illinois, and Seattle, Washington, with the crowning trip being a cruise to Alaska, including Victoria, Canada, the first week of May of this year. A bucket list dream come true! All of these trips were over the past six years with his girlfriend, companion, and partner in so many ways, Elaine Fuchs.
He lived every single minute to the max. He had several medical problems over the past several years, but it never slowed him down. His relationship with his Lord and Savior grew with each passing day. He studied his Bible on a daily basis and had so much peace. He attended Word of Life Church in San Angelo, Texas, for approximately 10 years, thanks to much prodding from Dan Springer and the rest of his family. He truly loved everyone at his church and everything about it.
You usually heard Curt in the room before you saw him, but people literally flocked to him. He had the largest dad joke catalog imaginable, but he wouldn’t tell any jokes that he wouldn’t say to his preacher—or at least he tried real hard not to. He is probably best known for his huge smile, his great laugh, stopping every child he saw and asking their parents if he could have a Lifesaver (sometimes he would give grown-ups one, but he was the biggest kid), and speaking to every single person he saw, whether he knew them or not. He had no problem asking if he could sit at your table if there wasn’t one available, and you were friends for life. Oh, and he took pictures of you whether you liked it or not!
Curt met his grandparents, parents, and his sister, Lois, in Heaven when he got there, as well as many good friends, most notably Brenda Fay and Kristie Newby.
He is survived by his girlfriend, Elaine Fuchs, and her family of San Angelo and Boerne; his siblings Carl Miller (Diana) of Coppell, Erica Miller of Castle Rock, Colorado, Matt Miller (Chelsea Jones), Benjamin Miller, Conrad Miller (Cassie Bagwell), and Channing Miller—all of San Angelo; his grandson, Duncan Miller; nieces Mariah Lambert and Emily Lambert (Garth Potter), Sarah Miller, Amy Miller, Jaton Miller, Camissa Miller, and Brianna Miller; and two grand nieces. He is also survived by his best friend in the world, Steve Smotherman, and his wife, Sara, of Longview, Texas, as well as Jared Newby and his children Regan, Braelyn, and Kinslee of Monahans. We can’t forget his dog, Buddy! He would forever say that was his best Christmas gift ever! And his many, many friends all over the world. His Word of Life family completes his circle.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Word of Life Church, 5173 S. Bryant, San Angelo, Texas 76904. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Word of Life Church or your favorite charity. This is a CELEBRATION of Curt’s life! Feel free to wear your Hawaiian shirts or favorite sports team clothing. Just come as you are and bring your Curt stories. Curt wouldn’t want it any other way.
Many thanks for all the love and prayers these past few years, months, weeks, and days.
