Daniel James Springer

On Sunday, September 20, 2026, Daniel (Dan) James Springer joined his Lord and Savior in heaven. He was 65 years old. Dan was born on May 9, 1961, in Bellingham, Washington, to parents Beverly Springer Mateo and Thurston Springer. He graduated from Central High School in 1979.

Dan loved music and was well versed in numerous genres. He spent many years in broadcasting and began his career as a weekend DJ for KIXY radio station. He was the program director of station KTEO and then spent many years as a DJ for KGKL. His listeners grew accustomed to learning interesting details and trivia about the artists and their music.

After leaving the world of broadcasting, Dan worked with his brother, David, at Springer Brothers Construction. Dan’s gift of speech and his numerous jokes served him well as he met prospective clients and took care of their building needs. He enjoyed driving from site to site visiting, laughing, and sharing his sense of humor with customers. His joyful laugh and glacial blue eyes were infectious and hard to resist!

A lifetime fan of the University of Texas, he followed all of their sports teams and cheered for “his Longhorns” relentlessly. He loved to wear their colors to show his support and could never receive too many Longhorn Christmas or birthday gifts. He was the “voice” of the Lakeview Chiefs and was inducted into the Lakeview Hall of Fame for his dedication and service.

Dan was a long-time member of Word of Life Assembly of God church. He helped with announcements, taught Sunday school, preached on Sunday nights, and acted in the annual Cantata as John the Beloved. His narration skills were impressive, and he memorized an extensive part every year. His performances were powerful and vividly brought to life the story of Jesus Christ. An avid reader, his knowledge of the Holy Bible was extensive and prolific.

Dan was preceded in death by his father, Thurston Springer, his stepfather Edward Mateo, and his mother, Beverly Mateo. He is survived by stepdaughters Shayla Gonzales (Quintin) and Jazmin Arthur (Wade), grandchildren Lillian, Preston, and Grayson Gonzales, and Brazzus Arthur. He is also survived by siblings David Springer (Kathy), Douglas Springer (Lynne), Debbie Hall (Michael), and Don Springer (Karen), and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Word of Life Assembly of God in San Angelo, Texas. Burnt orange will be the color of choice, because we all know why God made the sunset that color… Hook ‘em.
