David Alois Pelzel

David Alois Pelzel, 78, of San Angelo, affectionately known as “Pop” went to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 18, 2026, in San Angelo, Tx. David was born February 21, 1948, in San Angelo, Texas to William Leo Pelzel and Doris Ann Gerngross Pelzel. He grew up in San Angelo and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1966. David proudly served five years in the United States Coast Guard, including the Vietnam War, earning medal after medal along the way. After the military, he returned to San Angelo and became a man of all trades. While he was establishing his electrical career, he met the love of his life Janice Carol Fickling. They remained side by side for over 50 years. During that time, he also became a master electrician and an expert in fixing other people’s lawnmowers and vacuums. Above all, David was a loving son, husband father and grandfather who adored his family. This beacon of a man had the power to raise folks up higher than they ever thought possible. He was an impeccable listener with the gentleness of a dove. David had immense healing powers within his big bear hugs. He always assured you left his presence feeling loved, seen, heard and empowered. If you didn’t that was your own fault. He spread joy and laughter with everyone he met. David was also the first person to help others in need, whether it was by providing meals, money or the shirt off his back. He was always ready and willing. He thoroughly loved working side by side with Janice at the Catholic Outreach and made several new friends he held dear to his heart. David was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Janice, his grandson Christian, his niece Kylie, numerous other friends and family members and his very special pets, Hilda, Rowdy and Suzy. He is survived by his Son, Daniel Leo Pelzel and his wife Tasha, of Robert Lee, TX, his daughter Janice Katherine Novian and her husband David, of San Angelo, TX, his daughter DeDe Ann Smith and her husband Shane, of Ira, TX, his son, Mikel D. Pelzel and his wife Sommer, of Miles, TX; his sisters, Ann Theresa Johnson and her husband Damon, of Snyder, TX and Marie Agnes Stewart and her husband Lyn, of Eager, AZ; 9 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren and numerous other family members. The Rosary will be at 10:00 A.M., Thursday, April 30, 2026, at Sacred Heart Cathedral. The Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 A.M. at Sacred Heart Cathedral with Monsignor Larry Droll as celebrant.
