David M. West passed away on December 4, 2025, in San Angelo, Texas, from complications during a battle with glioblastoma. He was born December 6, 1948, in San Angelo to May N. and George B. West.
David graduated from San Angelo Central High School with the class of 1966. After high school he moved to Fort Worth, Texas, and joined General Dynamics working on the F111 Aircraft program. He later returned to San Angelo and began what turned out to be a career in telecommunications with GTE/Verizon. He started as a telephone lineman on a construction crew. During his career David held a wide variety of positions in Telephone Operations, Engineering, Marketing, Sales and Corporate Real Estate. He held the position of Director of Corporate Real Estate when he retired in Irving, Texas, after a successful 32-year career.
After retirement he bought ranches in Brown and Irion Counties and devoted the remainder of his life to ranching.
During high school, and for several years after, he was heavily involved in the sport of drag racing. He enjoyed building drag race cars and engines with which he competed and won many races all across the State of Texas. David always enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, and getting together with old friends to hunt while swapping jokes and stories. He especially enjoyed the annual hunts on the Ocotillo Ranch south of Marfa, Texas.
David is survived by his loving wife, Linda. He is also survived by Linda’s children, Pamela Blackwell (Jeff) and Jay Van Sickle (Sarah) and five step grandchildren. David has one brother, Eugene B. West. He was preceded in death by his parents May N. and George B. West.
At David’s request, there will be no service; however, there will be a viewing (not a visitation) on Monday, December 8, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Harper Funeral Home, San Angelo, Texas.
Interment will be at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in San Angelo, Texas.
