Dorothy Sue Bowers

Dorothy Sue Bowers, 90, of San Angelo, Texas passed away on Sunday, October 5th. She has been a resident of the Springs Memory Care Center for the past 7 years and will be remembered for her quick wit and humor.

She was born November 3rd, 1934 in Sunflower, Mississippi to Robert Tully Boyer and Hattie (Clifford) Boyer. She was raised in Sunflower, living next to the cotton gin that her father ran. She attended (Moorehead) Sunflower Agricultural High School where she was selected to be “Senior Girl of the year” noted for her personality. She participated in many extracurricular activities, including being a member of the band, National Honor Society, and active in her church. Dorothy was selected to be Senior Class reporter for the Sunflower Petal Paper, writing about the Senior’s adventures in her articles and poetry.

She received a scholarship from the Office Training School in Memphis, Tennessee, and went on to work for Mississippi Power and Light. Dorothy soon married her husband, Wesley, and began their Army Life traveling to many locations both domestically and overseas. After his retirement, they came to be in Texas. She had many hobbies over the years, knitting, crocheting, square dance, cake decorating, and was a voracious reader.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, Carl Bowers (Wife Linda) and Steven Bowers (Wife Trish); Daughter-in-law, Kay Bowers; grandchildren, Hope Hehn, Armie Bowers, Josh Bowers (Wife Kylie), Joey Bowers (Wife Anjelica), Robert Bowers (Wife Faith), Stephanie Nichols (Husband Scott); great grandchildren, Breanna Lynn, Rilynn Emerald, Harper, Hayden, Jose, Aria, and Oden, plus a multitude of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Wesley Cleon Bowers, 5 sisters, Iris, Mary, Binkie, Helen, Alma; brother, Richard; Son, Robert (Bobby) Bowers, and granddaughter, Jackie Michelle Bowers.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the care staff of Springs Memory Care for the attention and support provided to her over the last 7 years. Additionally, to Concho Hearts Hospice for the excellent care in her short final days, especially Lindsay and Jessica.

Arrangements are made by Harper Funeral Home where she will be cremated and taken to join her husband at a later date.

In lieu of any flowers, a memorial to the West Texas Alzheimer's Association will be appreciated.
