Dorothy Jean Gay Jones

Dorothy Jean Gay Jones passed from this life on Thursday, October 12, 2023. She was born July 21, 1928, in Lubbock, Texas to Nora Annie Gillit Robinson and William Broadneaux Robinson. She married Joe M. Gay, Jr. in October of 1947. He passed away in October 1989. Dorothy married Dr. Billy Mac Jones in June 2002. He passed away in October 2007. A private family burial will be held prior to the service. A Memorial service will be held at Johnson Street Church of Christ on Monday, October 16, 2023, at 10:30am.

Dorothy graduated Cum Laude in the first graduating class of Angelo State University. She taught school for 27 years – four years in Carlsbad and 23 years in San Angelo Independent School District. Eighteen of those teaching years were spent in the same room – fourth grade at Santa Rita Elementary.

Dorothy was a team member and teacher of Johnson Street Church of Christ’s Footprints of the Faithful. She and friends began the program in 1992, She spent much of the last years of her life in this pursuit, presenting workshops at various churches and at Abilene Christian University’s Bible Teacher’s Workshop.

She is survived by two sons – David Gay and wife Joy, Ron Gay and wife Beverly. She is also survived by six grandchildren – Casey Gay (Claudia), Jenny Stallard (Chris), Bethany Buscher, Ashley Hundley (Chance), Jonathan gay, and Kimberly Dendle (Brant). She is also survived by 13 great-grandchildren – Juliana Gay, Carter and Claire Stallard, Ally, Blayne and Garrett Buscher, Taylor and Shane Hundley, Grayson and Kaitlyn Gay, Kamryn and Emma Torres, and Lincoln Dendle. She is also survived by nephews Charles and Joe Williams and nieces Betty Kennedy, Valarie, and Vickie. She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Ola Ruth Wade.
