Dorothy Nell Tomerlin, 75 of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on, Monday, November 5, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born March 28, 1943 in Austin, Texas to Alfred and Mabel Maxey. She grew up in Sterling City, Texas and at the young age of 17 married Cary Tomerlin. Dorothy became a loving and devoted mother and homemaker, but she also had a knack for business. She opened and operated a dress shop in Big Springs, Texas. Then they moved to Christoval, Texas where she worked for the School District as a secretary to the Principal and the Superintendent. She also was secretary to Justice of the Peace Ed Harris for many years. In 1971 Dorothy and Cary started Concho Propane Company where they worked side by side for 46 years. Dorothy had numerous hobbies she enjoyed. In her spare time, she loved shopping and especially shopping for shoes. She loved to travel and dance but most of all cooking. She will be remembered for her homemade meals where people would come from all over to fill up with propane just to have one of her great lunches. However, her cinnamon rolls stole the show and eventually became Dorothy’s “famous cinnamon rolls.” Most of all, she will be remembered for her very giving and unselfish nature and infectious laugh. She always put others first and cared for everyone else before herself. Dorothy was also a strong Christian woman of faith. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Carlsbad. Her life and love of giving to others and especially her cooking will remain in our hearts forever and we will dearly miss her! Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 57 years, Cary Tomerlin, Jr., three sisters and 3 brother-in-laws. She is survived by her sons, Cary “Toot” Tomerlin III and wife Debbie of San Angelo, and Tommy Tomerlin and wife Sheila of Richland Chambers Lake; her 4 grandchildren, Erika Weidner and husband Kevin, Brittany Stober and husband Steven, Tyler Tomerlin and fiancée Hayli McCullough, all of San Angelo and Trent Tomerlin, of Dallas. She is also survived by 7 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and a special “adopted daughter” Brandy Spruce who cared so lovingly for Dorothy and Cary. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Solaris Hospice and the staff at The Springs. Donations may be made to the Children’s Miracle Network, Paul Ann Building Fund or to any Alzheimer’s Association. The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Friday, November 9, 2018 at Harper Funeral Home. Her celebration of life will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Paul Ann Church in the Worship Center with Trent Tomerlin and Randy Levens officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
