Edith Agnes Powers

February 28, 1922 — July 22, 2022

Edith Agnes Powers passed from this earth peacefully at the age of 100 years on Friday, July 22, 2022, in San Angelo, Texas. She was born on February 28, 1922, to Charles and Lona Lucas of Hamby, Texas. She was the oldest of two children. Agnes, as she was known to her many friends, married the love of her life, Weldon Kash Powers, on August 24, 1940, in Albany, Texas. They made their home in their early years on the family farm in Hamby, which she still owned when she passed away. Agnes and Kash welcomed three children into their family, a daughter Peggy followed by twin boys Donald and Ronald nine years later. As their family grew, Agnes and Kash moved from Hamby to Abilene in the mid-1950s. Agnes was a beautician for many years as the children grew, then later worked for the State Health Department, retiring in the mid-1980s. Agnes and Kash were believers and raised their family in church. They were members at the Hamby Baptist Church as a young married family. When they moved to Abilene, they served faithfully for decades at Immanuel Baptist Church, and later, they worshipped at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church. After living in Abilene for 93 years, Agnes moved to San Angelo in 2015 and made her home at Baptist Retirement Community. At the time of her death, Agnes was a member of First Baptist Church, San Angelo. Agnes had several hobbies which she loved. She and Kash were avid “42” players and later traded in their dominos for bridge cards. She played bridge with a group of ladies from her church after Kash “retired” from bridge and dominos. Later in life, Agnes developed a love for painting fine china. She loved the entire process of creating beauty, from a white plate to a kiln-fired finished piece of art. Her home was adorned with many pieces of her china work. Agnes is survived by her children, Peggy Manning and husband, Royce, of Abilene; Donald Powers and wife, Leslie, of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas; and Ronald Powers and wife, Becky, of San Angelo. She is also survived by one grandson Brad Manning of Hudson Oaks, Texas, and two great-grandsons, Jacob and Samuel Manning of Austin, Texas. The family wishes to thank the staff at Baptist Retirement Community, especially those at The Crest East, for the loving care given to Agnes over the past several years and those at Kindred Hospice who cared for her in her final days. A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 25, 2022, at 10:00 AM at the Hamby Cemetery, where she will rest alongside her love Kash once again. Chaplain Kevin McSpadden will officiate. Family and friends may share condolences and sign the register book at www.harper-funeralhome.com
