Edwin (Eddie) Keith Long, 74, of San Angelo Texas, passed away Sunday, November 30, 2025 at his home. He was born on September 28, 1951, in San Angelo, Texas to parents E. Keith and Maurine (Posey) Long.
Eddie attended McGill Elementary and Robert E. Lee Jr. High prior to graduating from San Angelo Central High School in 1970. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Angelo State University in May 1980.
Eddie’s work history (not in sequential order) consisted of working the night shift at the Benchmark Hotel, Mitsubishi, J. D. Owens Produce, Strahorns, Education Service Center and All-Tex Irrigation & Supplies, where he retired as Sales Rep.
Eddie’s love of sports began at a young age and continued throughout his life. He enjoyed playing basketball, intramural football and golf. He was a fanatic fan of the Dallas Cowboys and would travel to the ends of the earth to attend a game (1993 Super Bowl in LA, for one). He became a member of the Texas Association of Sports Officials and served as Past President.
Eddie is survived by his older sister Cheryl (Don) Pettit of Albemarle, North Carolina; younger brother R. Kevin (Renee) Long of Abilene, Texas; Brother-in-law Norman Jenkins of San Angelo, Texas; nephews and niece, Jason (Alexandra) Jenkins of Oak Park, Illinois; Erin (Brett) Rumble of Charlotte, North Carolina; Neil (Kellyn) Pettit of Waxhaw, North Carolina, Seth (Bailey) Long of Abilene, Texas; great-nephews and nieces, Mabree Barger of Waxhaw, North Carolina; Merrick Barger of Waxhaw, North Carolina, Everett and Oliver Jenkins of Oak Park, Illinois and Ava Long of Abilene, Texas.
Eddie is preceded in death by his parents, E. Keith and Maurine (Posey) Long and his older sister, Sandy Jenkins of San Angelo, Texas; grandparents, Robert (Ella Conn) Long of Brook, Indiana and Leonard (Winnie Camp) Posey of San Angelo, Texas.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 13 at 2 p.m. at Grace Christian Church, 29 N. Oakes St., San Angelo, Texas 76903 under the direction of Harper Funeral Home and Crematory. This obituary does not reflect the “Life of Eddie Long.” There are many missing stories that need to be shared by family and friends and there will be an opportunity to do so at his Celebration.
