On Sunday, November 18, 2018, Elida Garcia Velez passed away at the age of 84. Elida was born on September 25, 1934 to Pedro Garcia and Carolina Alvarado (Moran). She had three children, Roland Garcia, Rickie Garcia Zuniga and Cindy Velez. She was married to Gilbert Velez Sr and they shared 36 years together before he passed in 1995. She was also the stepmother to Gilbert's four children, Gilbert Velez Jr., Lupe Urista, Henry Velez, and Dee Urquidez. Elida worked as a waitress in San Angelo for many years and when the family moved to Eldorado in 1977, she worked delivering meals on wheels and driving the Thunderbird transportation van. She also volunteered with the youth and other ministries at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic church. She opened her home to youth missionaries and Search team members and for many youth meetings. Elida was volunteered to be room mom and Girl Scout chaperone many-many times. She was generous but could be strict and love to boss people around. She was always in charge. Elida was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gilbert and step daughter Lupe Urista. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Luis Garcia and Richard Jimenez. She is survived by her son Roland Garcia and daughters Rickie Zuniga and Cindy Velez. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren Ann Garcia and Martin Ledezma, Liza Garcia Carrasco and Michael Garcia, Valerie Zuniga Sanchez and her husband Jessie, Jerod Zuniga of Austin and his wife Rika, Joseph Zuniga and Victoria, Carrie Zuniga and Eric Flores, and Salena Zuniga Gomez and Gonzalo Perez. She is also survived by eighteen great grandchildren, Samantha and Nyome Sepeda, Bobby, Chassidy and Alek Carrasco, Jake Zuniga, Korbyn Gonzalez, and Braylon Sanchez, Ronnie, Julian and Emric Zuniga, Oliver Zuniga, Liana, Eric, Sophia, and Easton Flores, Jeremy and Jayden Gomez and two great granddaughters Zaila and Dollana Bills. Elida also leaves behind a special young lady who she loved as a daughter, Angelica Meredith and her step sister Lillie Escobedo, Sister-In-Law Martha Garcia, Evangeline Jimenez, Hortencia Whittle, Tillie Lowrey, Mary Lou Roha, and Ex-Son-In-Law Pete Zuniga. Rosary will be held at Harper's Funeral Home on Friday November 23, 2018 at 7pm. Mass of Resurrection will be at St. Mary's Catholic Church Saturday November 24, 2018 at 10 am with burial in Eldorado Cemetery following a meal in the hall after mass.
