Ernest “Kim” Lynn Grasty III, 73, of Roby, Texas, passed away on June 17, 2025, in San Angelo. He was born on July 26, 1951 in El Monte, California.
Kim spent his early years in Southern California, later living in Northern California and Nevada before eventually settling in Roby, Texas. A man of many skills and great passion, Kim was a lifelong truck driver who hauled steel, cars, sand, and gravel across California. He also worked at Fallon Air Force Base, where he fueled fighter jets—adding to a life full of hard work and adventure.
His greatest passion, however, was racing. From drag racing to motocross and NASCAR, Kim loved the thrill of the track. But even more than the sport itself, he cherished the people in the racing community. He founded Team Jesus, a ministry that brought chapel services and children’s activities to drag strips and NASCAR events throughout California and Nevada, leaving a lasting impact on many lives.
Kim was known also for his sharp wit and sense of humor. He had a quick comeback for everything and a way of making people laugh, no matter the situation.
Above all, Kim’s deepest love was for his family. He was their biggest fan, especially his grandchildren. Whether in person or from afar, Kim never missed a moment of their races or sporting events, always watching and supporting them with pride and excitement.
Kim is survived by his devoted wife of 52 years, Paula Grasty; his children, Jeremy Grasty and wife Liz, Sarah Williams and husband Scott, James Grasty and wife Becca, and John Grasty and wife Cassie; grandchildren, Chloe and husband Blake, Hailey, Brady, Chance, Roxie, Connor, Jude, Lydia, and Luke; and his great-granddaughter, Lailynn. He was a great “Papa” to each of them, and they brought him immeasurable joy. He is also survived by his sister, Linda Moke and husband Bob; and nieces, Holly and Erin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Lynn Grasty Jr. and Wilma Jean Grasty.
