Eudene Smith

January 6, 1932 — April 25, 2023

Dorothy Eudene was born on January 6, 1932, to Adolf and Eufaula Spradley in Frisco, TX. The eldest of three children, she was raised in Muleshoe, TX and later moved and graduated from Slaton High School. While there, she met the love of her life, Thomas Smith, and later the two married while Tom was on a three-day pass from Ft. Hood. It was a romance for the ages, and she was the treasure of his heart from the time he met her. They were married 68 years at the time of his passing in 2020. Together, they moved to San Angelo, TX while Tom worked for the Santa Fe railroad. Eudene went to work as a bookkeeper at the Foremost Dairy and later worked for several accounting firms. She was a mother to Mike and Jim Tom as well as several foster children. After retirement, she spent several years as the Dorm Mother at Massey Men’s dormitory at Angelo State University. Tom and Eudene moved to Christoval, TX in 1989 where they were deeply involved in the chamber of commerce, local community activities and events, and were ardent supporters of the Christoval Cougars. They enjoyed years of ranch living, carrying grandkids around on “the buggy”, and hosting barbecues and Easter egg hunts. Generally speaking, you could find her in the garden, riding the tractor, or pitching tennis balls to the grandkids. Eudene was active in the church community at Immanuel Baptist Church for years and later at Christoval Baptist. A God-fearing woman of faith, Eudene raised Mike and Jim Tom to love God and His word. She instilled these same foundations within her grandchildren which is evident by the legacy of faith that lives in her sons and their families.

Eudene joyfully entered into the Lord’s presence on April 25, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, two infant sons, and her husband. To carry on her legacy, she leaves Mike Smith, wife Penny, their children and grandchildren: Mical and husband, Josh Boness and their children, Jake and Tucker; Peter Smith and wife, Torie and their children, Emmalyn and Hudson as well as son Jim Tom Smith and wife, Chel, their children and grandchildren: Justin and wife, Chelsea and their children Danielle, Josalyn and Kerrigan; Cody; and Rhiannon and husband, Justin Kelso and their children Jadon, Mitzi and Auron. She is also survived by her brother Donald, sister Trena and several nieces and nephews whom she loved and cared for deeply.
