Herbert Ross Heard

September 19, 1942 — April 15, 2024

Herbert R. Heard, “Herbie”, age 81 was escorted by angels to his reward in Heaven on April 15th, 2024 after a brief illness. He was born on September 19, 1942 to the late MD and Margaret Heard of San Angelo. Herbie graduated from Central High School before joining the Navy. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam war on the USS Coral Sea. After being honorably discharged he became involved in the insurance industry working his way up to partner with Fields-Stewart-Dolliver insurance which eventually became USI Insurance. He enjoyed his job with USI for over 50 years as well as his coworkers which he considered his extended family.

Herbie was an avid golfer making many lifelong friends at Bentwood Country Club. He sometimes would have a stellar round of golf followed by (his favorite saying) a louse bound attempt. He also loved fishing, enjoying many trips to Del Rio with his fishing buddies Larry Ricci and Steve Wardlaw.

He will be remembered for his strong faith, love of country and his family. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Donna, his devoted and precious daughter, Carrie Jo and husband Jacques Hodges who he considered his good buddy as well as beloved granddaughters Katie and Abigail Hodges, all of Winchester, England. He is also survived by his brother, Martin Dudley Heard. He will be missed beyond words by his family but we are comforted by the fact that he is safe in the arms of the Lord that he loved with all his heart. We would like to thank the nurses and staff at Encompass Rehabilitation Hospital for the compassionate care shown during his final days.

Memorials in his name may be made to his favorite organization, House of Faith, 321 Montecito Drive, San Angelo, TX. 76903 or to a charity of your choice.
