Jack Abner Greenwood, Jr.

Jack Abner Greenwood, jr., known affectionately as “Slick” to his friends, passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at the age of 90.

He was born on July 7, 1936, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Jack and Betty Greenwood. He grew up with his brothers, Bill and Hank, and graduated with the Duncan High School Class of 1955 in Duncan, Oklahoma. A gifted athlete, he later attended college in Nebraska on a baseball scholarship. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserve.

He enjoyed a long and successful career in the automobile industry. He established the finance department at Lee Jarmon Ford and continued his career with Five Star Ford, where he worked for 35 years.

He was an avid sports fan who especially loved the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Cowboys, and the University of Oklahoma Sooners. He was proud to have been an original Dallas Cowboys fan, cheering for the team from its very first season in 1960. He also had a lifelong love of golf. More than anything, he loved his friends and family. His circle of dear friends seemed endless because he had a special way of making everyone feel important. He continued to see lifelong friends from the Duncan High School Class of 1955 and cherished the lasting friendships he formed through golf, work, and his association with softball. When you were Jack’s friend, you became part of his family—and he always made sure you felt that.

He cherished attending his family’s activities, celebrations, and special events and was happiest when surrounded by the people he loved. He coached his daughter, Jackie, throughout her childhood and teenage years and was there for every game.

He lived life to the fullest and cherished every day. He loved dancing, having fun, and giving people something to talk about—always with that unforgettable grin. Whenever he said the word “Whiskey,” everyone knew it was time for the fun to begin.

Those he loved never had to wonder how he felt about them. He had a special way of giving each person a greeting all their own. It was one of the many ways he made people feel loved, welcomed, and uniquely special to him.

His four-legged family members also held a very special place in his heart. He even bought his last new truck with his beloved bulldog, Willie, in mind. After work, he and Willie shared a daily ritual—meeting up so Willie could go skateboarding. Those who knew him will remember his devotion to Willie, Miss Ellie, and Bubba, as well as his current best friend, Sadie.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Greenwood; his daughter, Jackie Greenwood of Springtown, Texas; his stepchildren, Jill Taylor, Larry Van Wey, Gregory Van Wey, and Jina DeMaine; his brother, Bill of Shawnee, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends who loved him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Betty Greenwood; brother, Hank Greenwood, stepson, Scott Van Wey; Sybil Greenwood, Sister in lawand his beloved pets, Willie, Miss Ellie, and Bubba.

He will be remembered for his love of friends and family, his loyalty, his joyful spirit, and the special way he made each person feel important. He lived fully, loved deeply, and created a lifetime of wonderful memories for those fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed.

The family is so appreciative for the care of Jack and for the support from family and friends and we would like to thank many care givers that went above and beyond to help Jack. Special thank you to the staff of Dr. Leon, Dr. Marti Rivera and staff, Andrea Perez, of Quality Caring Hands and her special care team, Olga, Julia and others, and the team at St. Juanita Nursing home, The doctors and nurses at Shannon and the Care team at Hospice of San Angelo in patient care that went above and beyond.
