James "Jim" Scarbrough

September 6, 1940 — October 18, 2022

James ‘Jim’ Alton Scarbrough, of San Angelo, passed away on October 18, 2022 at the age of 82.

Jim was born on September 6, 1940, in Mexia, Texas to parents Alton and Lois (Dobbs) Scarbrough. He married the love of his life, Connie Driskell on July 11, 1965. Together they built a beautiful family which included three sons: Jimmy, Brian and Michael. Jim served as a linguist in the United States Air Force for just a few short years before being medically discharged. He then went on to work for Ethicon San Angelo as the Personnel Manager where he gained many lifelong friends. Jim was most well known for his time owning and operating 9 Dairy Queens in and around San Angelo. He always hosted the best DQ parties where many of his employees became family.

Jim’s obsession with his hair, his desire to always have the sportiest car and his fear of tornadoes are something his family will remember forever. He was always there – whether it was a sports event for his boys, a get together at the farm or his grandkids birthday party. He was truly the life of the party and had a way of making everyone smile and laugh.

Jim was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. Jim and Connie’s house was the ‘go to’ house. They were seen as second parents to many of their boys’ friends. They hosted family gatherings such as game nights, holiday celebrations and many weekend sleepovers with the grandkids.

Jim is survived by his wife, Connie Scarbrough, his son Brian Scarbrough and wife Diane Scarbrough, his son Michael Scarbrough; grandchildren Kelli Hill, Alicia Scarbrough, Courtni Green, Bailli Truelove, Shelby Bethel, Kevin Scarbrough, Steven Scarbrough, Chris Crawford, Brandon Bradley, Teagan Bradley and Madyson Scarbrough. Jim also had 15 great-grandchildren that adored him.

Jim is preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Scarbrough and parents Alton Scarbrough and Lois Randall.

The family will be having a private celebration of life on October 22nd.
