James Roberts Oates

James Roberts Oates, age 87, of Abilene, Texas, died on February 11, 2024.

He was born in Groom, Texas on January 2, 1937, to Tom and Nydia Oates. He married Jackie Jean Hunt on April 9, 1960.

He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, a baby sister, Linda Marilyn Oates, his only brother, Tommy Oates and his beloved son, Monty.

He is survived by his children, Mark Oates (Jeanie) of Edmond, OK, Jamie Shannon (Patrick) of San Angelo, TX, and grandchildren, Haley Jo Oates (Bryan), Rose, Jacqueline and Alexandra Oates, Addison and Emma Shannon, and great grandchildren, Bronson Cash, Tinley Belle and Stratton Holt Tolliver. He is also survived by Tommy’s children, Roy Oates (Martie), Derethia Spradlin (Tracy), Rex Oates and their families.

Graveside services are under the direction of Harper Funeral Home and will be held on February 16, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. in Oakwood Cemetery, 308 Front Street, Cisco, Texas.
