Janet Ruth Wilburn, 68, of Big Lake, Tx went home to meet Jesus on May 31, 2026 due to medical complications.
Janet was born in Dumas, Texas, in 1958 to Alvin Clyde McCaleb and Sally Pearl McCaleb. Raised in a loving Christian home, she cherished the many family adventures, including long road trips and bike rides with her parents.
She graduated from Dumas High School as a Demon and went on to attend Texas Tech University. It was during her college years that she met the love of her life, Warren Wilburn. In February 1978, while attending mutual friend, Vicki Richmond’s father’s birthday party in Big Lake, Janet instantly connected with Warren. He proposed just four months later in June, and the couple married on a snowy September 23, 1978, at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Dumas.
Janet and Warren were eager to build a family, and their children became the center of their world. Though she never got to meet the child she lost early in her first pregnancy, she is now reunited with that little one in Heaven. Their daughters, Lesley (born May 6, 1980) and Kendra (born July 18, 1983), brought them immense joy.
While raising her young family, Janet worked alongside Dr. Jack Wright in his clinic. She later served as secretary for the family business, W&W Welding, for 25 years. She then pursued further education to become a licensed appraiser and real estate agent, a career she enjoyed for many years until health issues slowed her down.
Janet had many talents and passions. She loved playing the organ, drawing, and bringing laughter and humor to those around her. However, her greatest joy in life was being “Gramma.” She treasured every moment with her grandchildren and made it a priority to attend every concert, ball game, BB gun shoot, ceremony, and banquet. She taught them piano, told them stories from her life and their own childhoods, and showered them with love.
A devoted member of First Baptist Church in Big Lake, Janet faithfully served by playing the organ, encouraging others, and serving on the Beautification Committee.
She will be remembered for her radiant smile and her ability to lighten any situation with her quick wit and warm humor. Her family will forever cherish the words, “I love you more.” She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and grandmother, and her presence will be deeply missed every day. Her memory will live on through the stories and love she leaves behind.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin Clyde McCaleb and Sally Pearl McCaleb.
She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Warren Wilburn; her sister, Kathy Strawn and husband David; her brother, Nathan McCaleb and wife Karen; sisters-in-law Carolyn Maddux and Nancy Ratliff; daughters Lesley (James) and Kendra and husband Zack; grandchildren Peyton, Joshua, Whittley, Huntley, and Baxley; along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a host of dear friends who were like family.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at First Baptist Church, Big Lake, Tx from 5-7 p.m. The funeral will be held on Friday, June 5, 2026 at First Baptist Church, Big Lake, TX at 10 a.m., followed by graveside at Glen Rest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Big Lake Memorial/Beautification Fund.
