Jeffrey Lynn Colvin, 82, of San Angelo, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. Jeffrey was born July 9, 1943, to George Washington Colvin, Jr., and Dorothy Sutton Colvin. He was born in Marshall and grew up in Bronte and Odessa, TX, and began building a life grounded in hard work and perseverance. His first job was with Bill Sears Grocery Store, where he worked his way up to manager, a testament to his work ethic and leadership. After a decade in the grocery business, he pursued his true passion: cars.
Jeffrey became a skilled and respected mechanic, spending many years working under the hood and under the sun, breathing life into engines and building hot rods that were as much art as machine. He especially loved race cars and took great pride in building high-performance engines. Friends and family knew they could always count on him for help diagnosing car trouble—or for a story about his latest project in the garage. He retired from Jim Bass Ford after many years of dedicated service.
On October 4, 1979, Jeffrey married Shirley Collins-Gayoso, and together they shared 45 years of laughter, love, and partnership. Whether they were dancing across the living room to R&B music, visiting the dragstrip, or simply enjoying each other’s company, theirs was a bond rooted in joy and unwavering support.
Jeffrey had a playful spirit and a kind heart. He adored animals and was never without a beloved pet by his side. He had a soft spot for cats, and his gentle way with animals revealed the depth of his compassion.
Above all, Jeffrey was a family man. He was a devoted husband, a proud and loving father, and a deeply cherished grandfather and great-grandfather. He delighted in family gatherings, where he could share stories, wrestle with the grandkids, and, if music was playing, show off a dance move or two. His legacy of love, humor, and generosity will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Jeffrey was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Steven Dennis Colvin. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Colvin of San Angelo, TX; his children, Marsha Colvin Ostrander and her husband Wayne of Abilene, TX; Jeff Colvin, Jr. and his wife Becky of Pflugerville, TX; and Bryan Gayoso and his wife Lindsey of Ballinger, TX. He is also survived by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, and lifelong friends. Special thanks to the wonderful and compassionate care provided to Jeffrey by Ballinger Healthcare & Rehab Center.
The family will receive friends for visitation from 5:30 P.M. – 7:30 P.M., Friday, July 25, 2025, at Harper Funeral Home. A celebration of Jeffrey’s life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 26, 2025, at Harper Funeral Home, with a private burial to follow.
In honor of Jeffrey’s lifelong love for animals, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Concho Valley Paws.
