Jerry F. Barnard

April 5, 1950 — January 18, 2019

On Friday January 18, 2019, loving husband, devoted father, and loyal friend, Jerry F. Barnard went to be with our Lord and Savior. It is with heavy hearts we say goodbye to one of today’s greatest legends and celebrate a life full of laughter, lifelong friendships, and a man surrounded by the family he built with love and enduring strength. From childhood, Jerry was a connoisseur of classic westerns with a true appreciation for well-built automobiles, especially the fast ones, an awe for the beauty of wild horses, and a love for the game of baseball. He knew every detail in the craftsmanship of his Ithaca 12-gauge over/under shot gun, and practically every other gun for that matter. He grew to be a self-proclaimed world class expert on ketchup and duck hunting, and always had a Labrador Retriever by his side. For over 17 years, Jerry was a proud coach to all his soccer girls. He taught more than the game itself. He led by example and taught them integrity, respect, hard work, fairness, generosity, self-love, and what it really means to take care of others. All were welcome and no one left with an empty belly, even if it meant a trip to Furr’s Fine Family Dining. Jerry was a man bigger than life with a heart of equal size, who could fill the room with joy, slightly embellished stories of adventure, and hearty laughter. His legacy of selfless love, loyalty, fighting for the underdog, always saying what needs to be said, standing up for what is right and true, and his unwavering devotion to his girls will live on in those he leaves behind—Jana, his wife of 46 years; his children, Jami and Ryan Reeves, and Jena and Logan Perkins; his grandchildren, Gretta and Margot Reeves, and Eleanor Perkins; uncle and aunt, Earl and Wilma Hutchinson; special helper, Marisa Ramirez; and countless friends. He is proceeded in death by his parents, Gerald and Rowena Barnard. Please join in the Celebration of Jerry F. Barnard at 11 am on Thursday, January 24 at The Heights Baptist Church, 4512 Sherwood Way, San Angelo, TX. Reception to follow. Viewing will be held January 22 and 23 at Harper’s Funeral Home, 2606 Southland Boulevard, San Angelo, TX.
