Judith Ann "Judy" Burney

Judith “Judy” Merrill Burney, of San Angelo, passed away into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Thursday, September 24, 2026, in Austin, TX. She was 83.

Judy was born May 3, 1943, in Hanover, New Hampshire to Donald Stiles Merrill and Regis Mary Benjamin Merrill. Judy was blessed later in years to marry her “precious” best friend and loving husband Don, on October 16, 1987. Don gave her so much joy and made life very interesting. In her own words “I wouldn’t have traded any of it.”

Judy attended Schools in San Angelo and retired from Lemay Oil company as a bookkeeper for 21 years. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her life to her family. Judy was a woman of tremendous faith and loved her Lord and Savior and her church family at Glen Meadows Baptist Church. In her spare time, she loved spending time with her family, all kinds of decorating, and watching the butterflies and hummingbirds.

Judy’s legacy of love and faith will remain deeply embedded in our hearts and we will dearly miss her!

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Donald Merrill, Bill Merrill and Steve Merrill, and one sister, Dolly Shumate, and two grandsons Kevin Ohlemacher, Taylor Harrison. She is survived by her loving husband Donald Burney; her daughter, Carla Bradley and her husband Jerry, of Whitney, TX; her son, Rick Thomas and wife Debbie, of Menard, TX, and having been blessed by a blended family, a daughter Peggy Winger and her husband Mark, of San Angelo, and a son, Jeremy Burney, of Eden, TX; seven granddaughters, Kacy. Kandi, Dakota, McKenzie, Amber, Malyn, Kalen and Taylor; and four grandsons, Terance, Sheldon, Jeremy, Jr., and Jared; 15 Great Grandchildren; her sisters-in-law Sandy Merrill, of Abilene, TX and Virginia Merrill of Fort Worth, TX; her brother-in-law, Kermit Decker, of Waco, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom she loved dearly.

The Family will receive friends for visitation from 5:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M., Thursday, October 1, 2026, at Harper Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 10:00 A.M., Friday, October 2, 2026, at Harper Funeral Home with Pastor Mack Roller officiating. The burial will follow at Sherwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers for the service will be Rick Thomas, Jerry Bradley, Jeremy Burney, Mark Winger, Terance Harrison and Jared Winger.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to John and Linda Denson, Lela and Ray Conner, Beverly and Ronnie Rose and her Life Group at Glen Meadows Baptist Church for all the prayers, love and support during this time.
