Larry Wayne Brenek, 80, of San Angelo passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, February 9th at Shannon Hospital. Larry was born January 3rd, 1943, also at Shannon Hospital in San Angelo, to Alfonse and Albiena (Vidlar) Brenek. Larry was a lifelong resident of the Fairview and Wall communities. He went to grade school at Fairview and graduated from San Angelo Central high school in 1961, where he also played football and threw shot put.
Larry grew up on the farm and continued farming in the Wall and Doole areas most of his life until he retired in 2015. He also held a job at Wall Co-Op as a ginner for a few years. His main loves were his hunting and fishing trips with family and friends. He regularly fished locally, anywhere from Twin Buttes to North Concho, to Brady Lake, or O.H. Ivie with his family and Fairview friends. He particularly enjoyed the several long fishing and hunting trips to Mexico, Canada, and Colorado with his good friends Robert, Wally, and Jimmy. Everyone would always comment that Larry was the first to reach his limit, whether fishing or hunting doves or anything in between.
Larry is survived by his brother Lynn Brenek and wife Shirley of Doole, TX, sister-in-law Dorothy Brenek of Vancourt, TX, nephew Kevin Brenek and wife Kristen of San Angelo, nephew Cody Brenek of San Angelo, niece Annette DeFrees and husband Larry of Hewitt, TX, nephew Allen Brenek of Wall, niece Janet Molder of Wall, niece Jean Brenek of Vancourt, as well as numerous cousins, great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Jimmie in October 2022, as well as his parents.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to Judith Cardenas and Enedelia Reyes, as well as the nurses at Preferred Home Health, especially Crystal, for allowing Larry to stay at home as long as possible. (And getting him out of the house for shopping adventures around town.) Additionally, thank you to Hospice of San Angelo and the 4th floor nurses at Shannon for providing Larry exceptional comfort care.
Viewing will be Tuesday, February 14th at Harper Funeral Home, with family visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 15th at Wall Brethren Church, with burial to follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers for the service will be Allen Brenek, Kevin Brenek, Cody Brenek, Robert Krupala, Randy Krupala, and Jimmy Freeman.
