Mario Joseph Zuniga passed away peacefully at home on October 2, 2025, after a short but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Mario was born on June 11, 1956, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Eliseo and Josephine Zuniga. At the age of two, his family moved to San Angelo, Texas, where he was raised among his eight brothers and sisters. On February 9, 1976, he married the love of his life, Jane Ornelas, and together they built a home filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to family.
Mario was a man of deep generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a story that could brighten anyone’s day. He had a sense of humor that lightened the moments. He valued hard work, honesty, education and above all, family. He instilled in his children the importance of strength and independence, guiding them with wisdom and love throughout their lives.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Eliseo and Josephine Zuniga, his beloved wife, Jane Zuniga, and his siblings Benny Bustamante, Tony Zuniga, and Rachel Cannon.
Mario leaves behind his children: Lisa Montes and her husband Guillermo of San Jose, CA; Amanda Ramirez and her husband JR of San Angelo, TX; and Mario Zuniga of San Angelo, TX. He was a devoted grandfather to Romeo, Alyssa, Evan and Izaiah.
He is also survived by his brothers, David (Becky)and Ricky (Mirna) Zuniga, and his sisters, Stella Trevino, Sylvia (Richard)Sepulveda, and Rebecca (Roger)Bejil, brother-in-law Jim Cannon and sister-in-law Jessica Zuniga along with numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will forever cherish his memory.
Mario’s legacy of love, humor, kindness, and unwavering dedication to family will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His presence will be deeply missed, but the lessons he imparted and the love he shared will never be forgotten.
A rosary service will be held at Harper Funeral Home on Thursday, October 9 at 6 Followed by a funeral mass at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church on October 10, 2025, at 10 AM. He will be laid to rest at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
