Marshal Allen Gray

Marshal Allen Gray, 71, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 28, 2026, in San Angelo surrounded by his loving family. Marshal was born on November 19, 1954, in San Angelo, Texas to Monroe and Nina Jean Acker Gray. He grew up in West Texas and graduated from Reagan County High School in Big Lake. After high school, he attended Angelo State University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Marshal met and later married the love of his life, Sherri Gaye Huie, on July 20, 1981, and they shared 45 beautiful years together. Marshal owned and operated Packsaddle BBQ in San Angelo for 29 years and owned and operated the KOA Campground for 25 years as well. He served on the KOA National Owners Association board for several years and was the President of the Texas KOA Owners Association for 16 years.

Marshal was an avid outdoorsman and regularly went both hunting and fishing. He especially loved hunting white-tail deer, turkey and dove here in Texas and would make a yearly trip to hunt Elk and Mule Deer in Colorado with his good friends and family. Marshal had such a profound love for fishing that he and Sherri bought places at Lake Ivie and Nasworthy. Fishing trot lines and jug lines were particularly memorable.

At home, Marshal’s hobbies included gardening, smoking meat and watching his grandchildren play. He kept a large vegetable garden, for 45 years, where he grew tomatoes (you’ve all probably had some of them), yellow squash and more. He also grew flowers in the front garden; his pride and joy were his bougainvillea, bird of paradise and his 40-foot pecan trees. During family gatherings, Marshal would watch his grandchildren play from behind the smoke of his barbecue pit as he prepared dinner for everyone.

Marshal was also active in the Boy Scouts of America and received the Silver Beaver Award in recognition of his service and involvement.

He was a genuinely humble person who wanted to help everyone in the community but did not want recognition for it. His unspoken passion was giving back to the community that had taken such good care of him and his family over the years.

Marshal was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to all and his life and legacy of love will remain in our hearts forever!

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Milton Gray of Florida. He is survived by his loving wife, Sherri Gray, of San Angelo; his children, Michael Gray and his wife Alexis, of Idledale, CO, Mathew Gray and his wife Emilie, of Shertz, TX, Mark Gray and his wife Courtney, of Georgetown, TX and Mason Gray and his wife Kara, of Leander, TX; his honorary daughter Brittney Arnold, her husband Kenneth and son Kenny Ray, of Tyler, TX; his grandchildren, Madelyn Gray, Harrison Gray, Chloe Gray, Ainsley Gray and Olivia Gray, and 2 more on the way, Schuyler Gray and Madison Gray; his Brother-in-law, David Huie and his wife Carla, of Lohn, TX; and his nephews, Josh Huie and his wife Tammy and Dusty Huie and his wife Christina. Marshal is also survived by his loyal companion and special dog “Anna.”

Marshal was a member of Johnson Street Church of Christ. Marshal is now fully healed and resting in the loving arms of Jesus.
