Mary M Gutierrez

Mary M. Gutierrez passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2021, in Pearland, Texas. Mary was born April 29, 1927 in San Antonio, Texas to Alfonso Montalbo and Guadalupe Quintanilla Montalbo. She attended Luther Burbank High School in San Antonio and later worked at Kelly Air Force Base where she met her future husband, Benny C. Gutierrez. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses in 1953 and attended several congregations in San Antonio, including, Lake, Divine, Lullwood, and North Unit. In 1983 she moved to Pearland, Texas. She worked at the Texas Department of Health and Welfare in Houston and Alvin, Texas until her retirement in 1992. She lived a quiet life during her retirement and was an active member of the congregation until she finished her life course faithfully. She was humble, compassionate and kind and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Mary is survived by her brothers Rudolpho (Fred), Ernest, and William, and sisters Teresa Monson, Laura Hoppe, Rose Alston, and Paula Montalbo; children Yvonne Hernandez and husband Frank, Carolyn Childs and husband Mark, Benny Gutierrez and wife Ivy, Melba Gutierrez and Arnold Gutierrez and wife Roxanna. Mary had four grandchildren, Ruth Garza, Serah Hernandez, Jacqueline Childs and Brittany Childs, as well as four great-grandchildren. Mary is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Alfonso Jr (Ted), Joe, and Robert. A zoom service will be held on Saturday, April 17 at 2:00 p.m., preceded by a brief visitation and video presentation. Another virtual visitation will be held immediately after the service.
