Mei Chih Lin Proctor, 87, of Pearland, Texas, passed away surrounded by family on April 4, 2026. She was born in Taiwan on December 9, 1938, a daughter of Lin Tung Pan and Lin Hsui Yan Wang. Hers was a life defined by courage, love, and an unwavering devotion to family.
Mei Chih was a woman of remarkable spirit. She dreamed of adventure and saw much of the world, traveling throughout Europe, Asia, and the United States, carrying with her a lifelong curiosity and love of learning.
She was enormously proud of the life she built in the United States. Over the course of her lifetime, she purchased four homes—a testament to her grit and financial independence. Her 23-year career at Ethicon was more than a job — it was a living lesson to her children in the principles of hard work and conscientiousness. Her greatest source of pride was her family. She made certain that each of her children graduated from college, all eventually earning graduate degrees, supporting them with an unshakeable belief in the power of education.
She was, above all, a gentle soul—endlessly generous, selfless, deeply principled, and possessed of a quiet strength that anchored everyone around her. Her dedication to family and the strength of her values leaves a legacy that will be felt for generations.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clay Dean Proctor of Wilmeth, Texas. Treasured mother of Sue (David) Espe of Scottsdale, Arizona; Meichihko (Allan) Barnard of Leander, Texas; Diana Marie Proctor of Pearland, Texas; and Thomas Nelford of Brooklyn, New York; devoted grandmother of grandchildren Tyler (Tasha) Espe (great-grandchildren Lilly, Lila, Anna), Thomas Espe, Spencer Espe, Meiko Barnard, Max Barnard, and Macy Barnard and cherished pet Lucy Proctor. She was preceded in death by one sister and survived by five sisters and one brother.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at Fairmount Cemetery in San Angelo, TX, near the Saint Francis statue. The service will be officiated by Kirt Dauphin. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Harper Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association are kindly suggested in her honor.
