Merilyne Carter Gibson

Merilyne Olivia Josephine Carter Gibson went with the angels after a long and courageous battle against cancer on September 7, 2021 at the age of 76. Merilyne was born on May 11, 1945, in Bastrop, Louisiana to W. Frank Carter and Arlene Tucker Carter and graduated from Christoval High School in 1963. Merilyne married Eugene (Gene “Bushman”) Gibson on January 24, 1964. She was a faithful Army wife and followed Gene around the world during his Army career. After Gene retired, they settled back in their hometown of Christoval. Merilyne worked at Golden Years Nursing Home in Christoval while raising their two children. Her favorite job was as a Branch Office Administrator with Edward Jones Investments where she worked for almost seventeen years before retiring. Before and especially after retiring, Merilyne spent her time watching her grandchildren participate in their various activities. Merilyne is proceeded in death by her husband, Eugene (Gene) Gibson; mother, Arlene Carter; father W. Frank Carter; beloved stepmother Nita Carter and brother Joseph Carter; mother-in-law, Alice McKinney and brothers-in-law Clifford Gibson and Doyle McKinney. Merilyne is survived by her daughter and son in law, Sonya and Marky Burch of Christoval, Texas; son and daughter in law, Eugene and Vannessa Gibson of Granbury, Texas; grandchildren, Casey and Rachel Gibson, Cole Gibson, Cordel Gibson, Zach Watson, Shelby Burch, and Kamryn Burch. She is also survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Adrianne and Joe Wilkinson; brother and sister-in-law, Monte and Carol Carter; brother and sister-in-law, Micci and Marty Carter; brothers Michael Carter and Myron Carter; sister-in-law Gerry Marburger and many loved nieces, nephews and close friends. Merilyne, Mom, Mimi- you were loved and will be missed by many. Family Visitation will be at Harper Funeral Home Sunday, September 12th from 3-5 PM. A graveside service performed by Mills Caraway will be held at Ivy Cemetery in Christoval, Texas on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 10 AM. Pallbearers are Casey Gibson, Cole Gibson, Cordel Gibson, Zach Watson, BW Kennedy and Lloyd Woodfin. Honorary pallbearers are Pearson Bednar and Zach Smith. A special thank you to Dr. David Cummings and his outstanding team at the Shannon Cancer Center for the wonderful care given in her five-year battle with cancer. Thank you to Kindred Hospice Care, especially Judith Burt R.N. and Monica, for their outstanding care during her last months. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Christoval Volunteer Fire Department or your favorite charity.
