Miguel Sanchez Maskill Sr, 66 of Ozona, Tx passed away on Thursday, May 22, 2025. Sadly, he was defeated by cancer, one of 4 separate cancer occurrences of his lifetime. He fought a very, hard battle till the very end! With his heavenly wings he flies as he embraces his son alongside.
Mike was born on May 9, 1959, to Serafin and Elena Maskill Sr. in Ozona, TX. Being the youngest of siblings, he grew up in Ozona, Texas. Mike went on to graduate from Ozona High School known as a "badass" and "fearless".
After graduation, he joined the United States Army. His duties included grenadier, sharpshooter, tank driver, power generators and wheel vehicle mechanics with tours overseas. He earned badges/ribbons/achievements in rifle M16, hand grenade, good conduct and service until honorably discharged of nearly 5 devoted years to our great nation.
Soon after he returned back home, where he joined the oil field industry doing mechanical and roustabout work where he quickly excelled to Supervisor of major oil field companies. His remaining days were spent as a retired Veteran with his family at side.
His achievements were nothing more than his family, building them a family home from scratch, putting them before himself as much as he could for their happiness. He also built lifelong friendships treating those with great respect as one of his raised core values.
Mike spent his past time, in younger years, fishing, camping outdoors, going to the river, practicing aim at the shooting range, BBQing and of course spending time with family/friends. He was a wonderful grandfather to his grandkids & great grandkids. His stern look hid the biggest heart that wouldn't hesitate to give those he dearly cared for his shirt off his back. He was extremely proud of his children and introduced them at every opportunity.
In 1978, Mike met Elma and stole her heart. They married in Ozona, Tx. and had four kids, who carried on their fathers' instilled values and fiduciary. They had one girl and three boys who are all grown. They remained married for 46 years and she remained at his side till his last breath.
Mike is survived by one brother Serafin Jr.
His daughter, Stephanie Maskill of San Antonio, Tx; his son, Stephen Maskill of Midland, Tx, his youngest son, Samuel Maskil of Ozona, Tx; grandkids- Nikaylee, Nicholas, Nikelija, Niviah, Brianna, Stephen Jr., Sammy, and Myles; great- grandkids- Naliah, Ariela and Atreus. Plus, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to express their gratitude to all Family and Friends that have reached out.
Arrangements for cremation are under the direction of Harper Funeral Home in San Angelo TX, to be followed by a memorial Patriot Guard Ride home to Ozona, TX. All those who wish to honor him are welcome to attend the escort or wait to receive him at his residence. Date and time to be announced.
