Nickie Dodson Williams passed away peacefully in her home on Wednesday, May 7,2025 with her husband by her side. Nickie was born on Nov. 22, 1943 in San Angelo, TX to Nick Salvato and Mary Perrone Salvato. From an early age, Nickie developed four guiding principles that held constant thru her life. With a large Italian family came an unmatched closeness and dedication to family, a devout Catholic faith, an appreciation of her Italian heritage, and a strong work ethic spending nights and weekends behind the soda fountain at her parent’s grocery store.
After graduating from Central High School, Nickie began a 30+ year career at GTE Southwest. A co-worker introduced her to his son, William “Al” Dodson, who’d just come home from the Navy. They were married on Sep. 9, 1966, and raised a son and twin daughters in the San Angelo area over their 35 years together. After Al’s passing in 2002, Nickie later married Mansel Williams on Feb. 14, 2010, and the two relocated to Lewisville, TX to be closer to their children and grandchildren. In her spare time Nickie enjoyed painting, volunteering at the cancer center, and summer beach trips with her husband and family.
Nickie was the center of her family and loved deeply by her husband, children and grandchildren. Her gifts of faith, family, hard work, and tradition have been instilled in all of them. She often expressed her love through food… making a big batch of her Italian spaghetti or stuffed artichokes to enjoy around the large dinner table. At Christmas she always made the traditional Italian fig cookies, and the family enjoyed making them with her these last few years. She was a steady source of love and support in their lives and would do anything for her family… from serving as an aide in the twins classroom at Wall, driving her 15 year old to work at 6 a.m., or filling water jugs for her daughter’s summer job, to driving 5 hours to be with Mysti for treatment, or picking up her grandchildren from school and cheering them on in any activity they chose. She was always there. And, she always had an ear to listen and a voice of reason.
Nickie was preceded in death by her first husband, Al Dodson, her parents, and brothers: Mike, TJ, Paul Anthony, and Ronnie Salvato.
Nickie is survived by her husband of 15 years Mansel Williams, her three children, Brody Dodson and wife Michelle of Flower Mound, Crysti Elder and husband Jonathan of Highland Village, and Mysti Dodson of Flower Mound, granddaughters Meagan and Peyton Dodson, and Jessica Ward, great-granddaughters Marley, Miyah, and Dani, step-son John Williams and wife Mindy and their children Evan and Silas, and one sister Toni Wright and husband Carl of San Angelo, and numerous nephews, nieces, and cousins.
The children would like to express their appreciation to Nickie’s husband, Mansel, for his care and support.
