Patricia Ellen Hutchinson

After a long and brave fight with Leukemia and other health issues, Patricia Ellen Liles Hutchinson, 74, died peacefully in her sleep on August 14th. "Born on December 11, 1951 in Farmville, NC, she was the oldest child of William Graydon Liles and Frances Covington Howard Liles."

She spent her early years in Farmville where her family started a tobacco company in 1940. Her mother died at the age of 39 when Trish was only 12 so she was raised by her paternal grandparents Mr. & Mrs. Manly Liles. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a doctorate in Physiology, and she never stopped learning. She wrote articles on various things mostly dealing with Physical Fitness and Physiology. She loved researching diseases/chronic illnesses and did tons of research on the rare Leukemia she had called Essential Thromboycemia.

Trish, also called Tricia in college, opened and ran for the first few years what is now called Shannon Health Club. She followed that with working at both hospitals in San Angelo, but retired as a Professor of Statistics at Angelo State University. She boarded/trained horses and competed in mile endurance races one being 500 miles. Wherever horses and dogs were, that was her happy place. Later in life as her physical abilities waned, she became an avid reader.

Trish was extremely resilient and positive her entire life especially through all the rehabs and setbacks she went through in the last 3 years. She said many times, “as long as we keep laughing, we’ll always be good!” Those that knew her best called her a true friend.

Trish is survived by her cousins, Michael (Susan) Howard from Cary, NC, and his sister Neal Howard of Waynesville, NC. She had numerous friends in the North Carolina area that attended a party In San Angelo the summer of 2021 when her platelets were so high, we thought we were going to lose her, but the good Lord had another plan. She talked about her friends and cousins fondly in North Carolina, California, and what was called the “The Kent State Gang.” She sold her house in 2019, bought an RV so that she and Willy could travel to see all these friends, but her health began to decline, and she decided to park it staying close to her doctors and her many friends in San Angelo.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, (August 29th) from 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm at Luigi’s Restaurant located at 421 S. Chadbourne St.
