Paul Wayne English

Our beloved Paul Wayne English was peacefully called home by our Heavenly Father on Thursday, July 31, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and his cherished niece, Claire Phillips, at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas.

Born on November 6, 1957, to two loving parents, Paul Ray and Billie Carlene (Farmer) English. Paul Wayne brought joy, kindness, and laughter into the world from the very beginning. He was educated in San Angelo, attending Santa Rita Elementary and Glenn Middle School before graduating with the San Angelo Central High School Class of 1976. He went on to attend Angelo State University, where he formed lifelong friendships and was active in the Lambda Chi fraternity.

Paul Wayne was a devoted member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where his mother once played the organ, piano, and his grandparents faithfully served. He loved being in fellowship with his family there —especially his wife, daughter Regina and her family, Uncle Sammy and his family—seated in their familiar pews, side by side in worship.

He began his professional journey working alongside his father and uncle at Angelo Suzuki, where he also enjoyed riding motorcycles with friends and family. In 1983, he and his father founded West Texas Steel & Supply, where his brother Stephen and son Bubba would later join in continuing the family legacy.

Paul Wayne had a generous and servant-hearted spirit. He believed in lifting up his community and actively supported numerous causes and organizations. Whether it was a clay bird shoot fundraiser or helping young people thrive through booster cards and school events, Paul Wayne could always be counted on. He was a proud supporter of the Concho Valley Dragway Tower, JPW Learning Center, and the San Angelo Area School Foundation.

When he wasn’t working or giving back to others, Paul Wayne found great joy in the simple pleasures of life—spending time with his family and pets, listening to music, and watching his favorite shows like Survivor, Big Bang Theory, Wheel of Fortune, golf, and car racing. He was the heart of his family: a devoted husband, loving father, and an adoring “Papa” to his seven grandchildren, who treasured his humor, guidance, unconditional love, and playful spirit.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Judie English; son Bubba Davis and wife Kim; daughter Regina Steakley and husband Robert; and his treasured grandchildren: Caleb Davis, Cohen Davis, Kinley Davis, Heaven Jackson, Liam Steakley, Westin Steakley, and Oliver Steakley—all of San Angelo. Also left to cherish his memory are his stepmother, Dianne English of San Angelo; stepbrother Randy Lee of Eola; Uncle Sammy Farmer and wife Jeana of San Angelo, & his Aunt Darlene Farmer of San Angelo; nieces Claire Phillips and husband Blake of San Angelo, and Tess Wooten of Fallon, Nevada; as well as many beloved cousins, in-laws, and friends—including Mark Tumlison, John French, Mike Walters, Jerry Trevino, Byron Beal, Clayton Hooper, Jody Coleman, Tim Turner, and his Lambda Chi brothers. There will be a visitation with the family Friday, August 8th from 5-7pm at Harper Funeral Home & the services to remember & celebrate Paul Wayne will be Saturday, August 9th at Immanuel Baptist Church at 10am. The burial will follow at Fairmount Cemetery.

Paul Wayne was joyfully reunited in heaven with his parents, Paul Ray and Billie Carlene English; his brother, Stephen English; his grandparents, Clyde and Bernice English and Sam and Daisy Farmer; his Uncle Eric and Aunt Tincy English; Uncle Harold Farmer; and cousins Robert and Aaron English.

The family would like to express special thanks to the San Angelo Central High School Class of 1976 for their ongoing prayers and support, cousin Darla Sanderson for her love offerings and comforting presence, and the compassionate medical teams at Shannon Medical Center and UT Southwestern—especially Dr. Carolina Ojeda, and Dr. Cheruku.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Paul Wayne’s memory with donations to the JPW Learning Center, Meals for the Elderly, Immanuel Baptist Church, or a charity of your choice.

As we grieve his passing, we rejoice in the hope of heaven and hold tightly to God’s promises.

“And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for. But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.” — Romans 8:26

Paul Wayne’s legacy of love, laughter, generosity, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew him. We thank God for the gift of his life and the blessing of his presence in ours.
