Peggy Lou (Wood) Atwell

October 25, 1932 — February 15, 2024

Peggy Lou (Wood) Atwell, died on February 15, 2024 in San Angelo, Texas at the age of 91. She was born October 25, 1932, in Santa Anna, Texas to Gerald Wood and Muriel (Hefner) Wood.


She attended school in Brownwood, Texas and was in the last class to graduate from Daniel Baker College in Brownwood, Texas. She was a member of the Phoebe K Warner Club and Delta Kappa Gamma. She enjoyed working in the yard, playing golf and water skiing.


She married J.D. Atwell in 1953 and he preceded her in death in 2008 after 54 years of marriage. Her precious dachshund, Evie Marie, also preceded her. She taught school for 22 years and worked for the Ellis County Board of Realtors and the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce. She was very active on the Board of the Gingerbread House and Child Advocacy Center in Waxahachie, Texas.


Survivors include her son Jeff Atwell (Lori) of Hillsboro, Texas, daughter, Lisa McInturff (Dean) of San Angelo, Texas. Grandchildren are Tiffany Jones (J) of Weatherford, Texas, Amy Basham (Roy) of Wolfforth, Texas, Adam McInturff (Megan) of San Angelo, Texas and McCall Hubenak (Reid) of Hillsboro, Texas. She also leaves 11 great-grandchildren, Julia, Avery and Chloe Jones, Kennedy and Darby Basham, Everett, Griffin, Crawford, and Theo McInturff and Laniee and Lorelei Hubenak.


Honorary pallbearers will be J. Jones, Adam McInturff, Roy Basham and Reid Hubenak.


We want to thank the staff at Lyndale, Concho Valley Home Health, Visiting Angels, Gentiva Hospice and Stephanie Melendez for all their compassion shown to Mom.

There will be a graveside service in Graham, Texas at Oak Grove Cemetery next to J.D. on March 9, 2024 at 2:00p.m. under the direction of Harper Funeral Home.
