Peggy Joyce Mittel was born January 29, 1938, in Lubbock, Texas. Her parents were Reverend Henry and Velma Mills. She was the middle child in a family of 5 boys and 2 girls. She graduated high school in Waycross, GA and attended college in Illinois. In 1957 at the age of 19, she led a youth revival at Riley Grove Church near Commerce, TX. In January 1959 she married Gail Mittel and they have been married for 67 years.
Peggy loved the Lord and had a strong desire for others to know the Lord. She taught children in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She also taught adult Bible Studies. She helped mentor younger women and impacted many lives in the community.
Peggy owned and operated Peggy’s Dress Shop and enjoyed going to the Apparel Mart in Dallas with her two daughters. Peggy and Gail also owned and operated the Texaco Station in Eldorado, and she kept the books for Gail’s construction business.
For the last 30 years Peggy and Gail have lived on their ranch tending to their livestock, enjoying the beautiful scenery, and taking care of the wildlife.
She is survived by her husband, Gail. They have two daughters, Cynthia and Gena; two sons-in-law, Evan and Mike; two granddaughters, Amy and Melinda; one grandson, David; two great-granddaughters, Carlee and Savannah; and a great-grandson on the way. She is also survived by one brother, Terry; and nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Harper Funeral Home with Pastor Mack Roller officiating.
