Rena Mae Collie

Rena Collie, of San Angelo, Texas traveled to Heaven on October 23, 2026, to sing and spread good cheer amongst the angels at age 75. She had a personal relationship with God and prayed to him daily.

Rena was born in San Angelo, Texas on August 21, 1951, to Lee Roy Harris and Annie Mae (Horeis) Harris. She was the baby sister of three brothers, Ronald, Russell and Ross with quite a childhood as a result. Rena was full of energy, cheerful, outgoing and made lifetime friends from an early age.

Rena and Joe Collie had a first date June 21, 1986, to a Bob Dylan/ Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers concert in Austin, Texas. The dye was cast and they married on June 1, 1988, in Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico while living in La Feria, Texas.

Rena was a very proud Lake View High School graduate of 1970; was awarded a B.S. Degree with honors (Cumlaude) from Angelo State University May 10, 1996, at age 44. She taught second grade at Goliad Elementary for twenty years.

At the mention of travel, Rena was quick to say “Let’s Go!” She and Joe made several trips to Mexico, mostly by bus, and favorite stops were Playa Azul and Puerto Escondido on the Pacific coast and Mexico City, Oaxaca and Patzcuaro.

Yearly treks were taken to the Gulf of Mexico and Colorado. Charlston, S.C. and Savannah, GA. were visited. Rena traveled to Germany, Paris, Amsterdam and Greece while in college.

Baseball games were a delight for Rena and Joe. She was in her element at a ballgame, eating popcorn and having a cold beer. She enjoyed outings with the Goliad Bunko Group, the Whiskey River Crew and the 1964 Supper Club.

Rena is survived by her husband Joe Collie, brother Ross Harris, nieces Lindsay (Clint) Harrison and their two children Coty and Rebecca, who she adored, Julie Harris and Shelley Harris; nephews Ricky Salvato and Jerry Don Burns; cousins Frances Chambliss and Mary Mauldin and their families; John (Becky) Barnes and Ken Steger; also, by the South Carolina Collies.

Rena was preceded in death by her parents, an older infant sister Reba, and her brothers Ronald and Russell Harris.
