Richard Ed Ogden

Richard Ed Ogden, 81 years of age, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026.

Richard was born on March 24, 1945, in Eldorado, Arkansas, the firstborn child of Frank and Lois Ogden. From those early beginnings, Richard went on to live a full and interesting life, building a career, raising a family, and collecting the experiences and stories that bolstered his larger than life love of Texas.

After graduating from Pine Tree High School in Longview, Texas, Richard earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin. He then began what would become a career of more than thirty years with Standard Oil of Indiana, rising through iterations of the Amoco Corporation and eventually retiring with Amoco Gas Company. His work took him and his family to many places across the country, giving Richard a life filled with change, new experiences, and many miles traveled.

In June 1967, Richard married Judy Follis. Together they celebrated close to 25 years of marriage and raised three children: Richard Meredith Ogden, Jon Ogden, and Amy Ogden Romig.

Richard had an enduring love for the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was happiest when there was an adventure waiting outside. Whether camping, hunting, or vacationing he had an appreciation for the freedom and beauty found away from the city.

Music was another great source of happiness for Richard. He built an extensive musical library and took great pride in playing his stereo. Given the opportunity, Richard was always happy to DJ his own soundtrack.

Those who knew Richard will remember his independent spirit and considerable curiosity. He maintained a lifelong appreciation for wildlife, geology, Texas history, reloading, and knife collecting, hotrods, and motorcycles . He paved his own path through life, leaving behind family, memories of years spent traveling, working, exploring the outdoors & enjoying music.

Richard was preceded in death by his wives, Judy Follis and Wynell Brunson, and his parents, Frank and Lois Ogden.

He is survived by his children and their families: Richard Meredith Ogden and wife Wendy Conway Ogden, and their children, Reece, Emma, and Gavin Ogden, of Galveston, Texas; Jon Ogden and partner Dana Oller, of Rowlett, Texas; and Amy Ogden Romig and husband Jason Romig, of Elizabeth, Colorado, and their children, Avery and Scott Romig.

He is also survived by Wynell’s son, David Barber and wife Penny, of Arlington Texas, and their daughters, Sarah Grace and Faye Barber.

Richard leaves behind two sisters and their families. His sister Suellen and husband David Simpson and their family; and his sister Ann and husband Larry Robinson and their family.

Richard's life was measured not only by the years he lived, but by the places he went, the adventures he pursued, the music he enjoyed, and the family he left behind. He will be missed and remembered by all who knew him.
