Rose Ann Hughston was born on August 8, 1926 in Cisco, Texas to Dr. and Mrs. Paul Mason and (Ruth Harlan) Woods and was raised in Cisco as an adolescent where she learned to play the violin at an early age, something that would follow her for many years to come. She graduated from Cisco High School in 1942 and went on to attend The Julliard School for the Performing Arts in New York City, New York for three years. The yearning to return to Texas eventually overcame her and she returned to Dallas, Texas to complete her advanced education by receiving a Bachelor of Music Degree from Southern Methodist University in 1949. While at SMU, she became a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, made many new friends, and eventually met her future husband to be Thomas Newton Hughston who was also attending SMU. A courtship ensued and they were married on June 11, 1950. After their wedding, and a honeymoon trip to Mexico, the couple settled in Dallas, Texas where Rose Ann gave violin lessons and taught in the DISD while Tom attended Baylor University Dental School. Upon Tom’s graduation from dental school and receiving his dental license, he and Rose Ann moved to Midland, Texas to eventually raise their family of four boys. As Tom’s dental practice grew, Rose Ann joined the Midland Odessa Symphony where she played in the first violin section, a passion of hers that lasted for over twenty years. While playing for the symphony she was blessed to perform in countless concerts for the enjoyment of thousands. Additionally, during that same timeframe she also became an active member of the Junior League of Midland and gave innumerable hours working for that organization. During their life in Midland both Tom and Rose Ann were active in their church and community, enjoyed entertaining and both were avid tennis players. Because of Rose Ann’s musical talents, she was sought out far and wide by her friends and her church to play in weddings and church services over the many years to follow. In her later years, after Tom’s passing, she considered herself fortunate to travel overseas on several trips with close friends. Worldwide travel became a key ingredient to her happiness later in life. Ultimately, she needed to be closer to family and set up residence in Royal Estates, a retirement facility in San Angelo, Texas. On October 6, 2016 Rose Ann passed into eternity.
