Roy Garcia Melendez, 72, of San Angelo, Texas, passed away on November 28th. His life was filled with love, family, service, and the countless people whose days he brightened simply by being himself.
Roy proudly served his country as a United States Marine, carrying the honor and spirit of a veteran throughout his life. After his service, he went on to dedicate 41 years as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in San Angelo, where he was affectionately known as “Brother Roy.” He loved being around people and treated everyone he met like family — a brother, a sister, or a lifelong friend. His warmth, kindness, and genuine connection with others left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Roy is survived by his loving wife, Diana Melendez, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. He is also survived by his sons, Daniel Melendez (Angie) and Keith Melendez (Nely), and by his grandchildren who brought him endless joy: Keith Jr., Cameron, Evan, Caleb, Alexis, and Daniel Jr. He is further survived by his great-grandchildren, who added even more light to his life: Amiyah, Kai, Manolo, and Korbyn.
Roy was preceded in death by his son, Roy Gabriel, and parents Mike Melendez and Carmen Melendez, as well as his brother and sisters, who welcomed him home with open arms.
Roy will forever be remembered for his open heart, steady presence, and the way he made everyone feel welcomed, valued, and loved. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were blessed to know him.
