Ruth Ann Halfmann, 74, passed away May 6, 2025, surrounded by her family at Brayden Park Assisted Living Facility in San Angelo, Texas after a lengthy illness.
She was born January 4, 1951, to Earl and Mary Ann (Glass) Halfmann at St. John’s Hospital in San Angelo, Texas. She grew up on the farm in Vancourt, Texas with her five siblings. Like all kids of that time, she was a vital part of her farming family helping with the field work as well as the yearly garden and canning the produce.
She graduated from Wall ISD in 1969, then attended Howard College graduating with her LVN degree in nursing. She worked at St. John’s Hospital in the Psychiatric Unit for 29 years then worked at San Angelo Community Hospital on the surgical unit giving her patients a warm smile and a “how are you doing today” greeting until her retirement in 2016.
Ruth had been an active member of St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church in San Angelo and enjoyed the parish activities especially the annual parish festival where she helped a merry band of parishioners on the coleslaw committee, chopping up the cabbage and making the cabbage dressing. She also taught religious education for several years. Ruth was an active member of the Catholic Daughters of America and was the deputy regent for many years. She was an integral part in helping establish Catholic Daughter of America chapters in Brownwood and Brady, Texas.
Ruth belonged to a group of lifelong friends who traveled together and played many games of bunco including Diane McNeill, Collett Cuellar, Sylvia Fuentes, and Cora Miller. Janie Hernandez was one of Ruth’s closest friends and enjoyed many Mexican food meals while solving all the problems of the world.
Special thanks to her caregivers from Arcadia: Vanessa, Patricia, Suzy, Sandi, Adonna and Morgan.
Ruth is survived by her sisters and brothers, Wanda (Allan) Lange, Debbie Scott, Charles (Sheila) Halfmann, Kevin (Julie) Halfmann and Joan (Wayland) Pierce.
